...And Personal...

Nice beauty shot. You can see the whole ship, in your face style, but not too close that you can't appreciate the forest from the trees. Another solid 8/10

Its a good shot, looks cool, but the only problem is that in the movie the ship was built on Earth, in Iowa, as stupid as that is. Maybe a good title for this would have been "how it should be built" or something of that sort. Still, the ship's growing on me, considering I wanted to kill JJ after first seeing it. Excellent model either way, and good angle for the shot.

What does this "thing" in a Startrek Spacedock.
This is not the Enterprise, this is not Startrek

It is a pretty picture. When I first saw this new enterprise, I hated it with a passion. However as I saw it more and more, it grew on me. Most insidious ship design ever!

@4, this wasn't intended to be where she was built. I figured the process of getting her from the assembly yards in Iowa to space is tricky so once in orbit she'd dock waiting for the full crew.

Thanks all for the comments!

As against the movie as I am, I must point out that even though it was built on Earth, it
has to reach space at one point, and I doubt when it was sent up into space, it had
every last member of the crew onboard. It probably docked with the station to make
any last minute refits or modifications along with crew and personal transfers.

Not a bad picture. Thx to Wiley, I'm starting to like the ship a bit more, the bulbus
nacells are still a bit akward to me though. Thats not wiley's fault, and its certainly not
ekbalams fault either. I do like the premise of this shot though. I'll give it a good 8/10.
but 10/10 to kill off the 1 voters. Nice POTD.

Hey, don't diss his enthusiasm.
That excitement can help him attract ladies, so dont stifle it. lol

I always imagined Federation ships of this particular class, or larger, as being too large for construction on the surface.

Seems impractical to build it on the surface.

Impractical and absolutely uncanon. Even the NX-01 was built in the space.
This new movie will suck. But still, the picture is great.

Whats the problem with it being built on Earth? I mean, its probally acturally easier to build it on Earth, and we know ships of a similar size (Voyager for one) can take off from planetary surfaces, be it 100 years later, but i dont imagine that abillitty being new then...

anyway, 10/10

I noticed that the shuttle is a ROS shuttle rather than the movie version, does anyone have a movie version of the shuttle in production?

the problem with the conie landing on a plant and being built even on the planet is the nacelles wouldn’t hold up they’d come crashing down not to mention the only part cannon of the conie that could land on the surface was the saucer section when it separated from the star drive, the ship would have to be built in space to keep structural integrity, and for this movie being an alternate time line story I still have my doubts. (see the star trek comic book Count down the offical precral to the movie. with captin data in command of the enterprie -E : ) )

@19, if that were the case, then forget all those high impulse manuevers, orbiting stars, or let alone the slingshot around the sun.

Maybe unpowered it wouldn't hold up, but isn't that one of the purposes of a structural integrity field?

The parts were made on Earth, THEN they were sent up into orbit and put together in spacedock. So yes the ship was built in San Francisco and put together in space.
