Star Trek never got better than DS9, and i don't think it ever will. Slow to start but finished with a bang, loved every ep. 1999 was a very sad year and the saddest day of all was 2 June 1999. I miss DS9.

#2 - Posted by: TiberiousKirk (Member) on 01-30-2010 at 13:40
Rock DS9 is my favorite Star Trek series. The characters were great and the storyline was completely amazing. (I also like the introduction to Section 31).

I loved many things about the series. The war, the Defiant, the alien cultures, and a lot more.

But what I love the most is by far Jadzia Dax.
Hot, smart, funny, wise, doesn't take things too seriously.
Perfect woman in other words.

Just too bad the damn lady doesn't really exist.stick out tongue

The Federation went throught its own war on terrorism.

#7 - Posted by: Henze (Member) on 01-31-2010 at 08:08
i liked everything..the battle-episodes was just amazing and it was nice to go in to the lifes of federation citizen (like quark and Rom, seeing an ferengi becoming the first ferengi member of starfleet)

#8 - Posted by: Sayne (Member) on 01-31-2010 at 12:06
While it was darker and less utopian than Roddenberry's vision, I think that it was much more realistic in that regard. All the main characters had dark sides that were well explored, some characters shifted from ally to enemy depending on what suited them at the time (Ducat in particular), and producing a good outcome often required doing some vile things (Sisko allowing Garack to murder the Romulan ambassador in order to get the Romulans on the Federation's side). Just like the real world.

Aside from its tone, from a pure script writing standpoint, it was by far the best among all the Star Trek series. It had the richest characters, the most plot development and the most interesting story lines.

I consider it the best Star Trek series - and I wish it was on TV more.

 #9 - Posted by: Zube1337 (Member) on 02-01-2010 at 01:20
It is too stale, the war last long, and didn't see much battle. The time-travel is the part I liked.

 #10 - Posted by: Jedi_Walon (Member) on 02-01-2010 at 09:36
Couldn't stand the series - it just wasn't Trek, you know? Personally, I thought the whole Dominion storyline was a bit weak, and it being set on a space station is hardly exploring the great unknown.
Voyager was a thousand times better - sure, it suffered from a few weak storylines from time-to-time, but it was one hell of a ride - like a Star Trek version of Battlestar Galactica, in a way. Also, it didn't suffer from having to put up with the likes of Worf and O'Brien - not that I have anything against O'Brien, but it was like it was desperate to become TNG.

Nb: Worf was only added to try and pick up the viewing slump.

#11 - DS9 was good, but it wasn't Trek. - Posted by: BLasToFF (Member) on 02-01-2010 at 10:36
DS9 was okay. Its overall story was forboded way too much. The individual
episodes were more entertaining when it wasn't focused on the main story (which
was Sisko being the emissary and all that religious hogwash). The war story was
good, I liked the fleets alot. Like Enterprise, by itself, DS9 is a good series. But it
wasn't very... Trek-ish. Sure, it had technobabble, and snippets of actual
exploration and discovery here and there, but it didn't scream star trek to me. ENT
was actually more Star Trek then Deep Space Nine was

TOS, TNG, and VOY are the real Star Trek's. DS9 and ENT were good, but they tried
too many new things for them to truely feel like Star Trek to me. Too bad that ENT
got cancelled though, would have liked to seen more of it, even though it wasn't
really star trek at all. We probably would have gotten 2 or 3 new Trek series (before
the 2009 Star Trek movie would have come out) if ENT's popularity was extremely
low by the majority.

Is there gonna be a new series at all? Or has Star Trek just turned into a
hollywood director's paycheck? Next best thing to Star Trek we have now is the new
MMO (which is looking pretty good, tried the beta, aside from the onslaught of
glitches, bugs and crashes, its actual gameplay was better then most MMO's and
most Star Trek games in general).

 #12 - To refute #10's common assertion... - Posted by: raccoon2k (Member) on 02-01-2010 at 14:54
...that being set on a space station contradicts the "exploration", I'll quote Q from "All Good Things...":
"Exactly. For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you had never considered. That is the exploration that awaits you. Not mapping stars and studying nebulae, but charting the unknown possibilities of existence."

 #13 - @raccoon2k - Posted by: BLasToFF (Member) on 02-02-2010 at 07:44
You do make a good point I guess. That, and considering thats one of my all time
favorite speeches in TNG, I can't ignore that argument, lol. I might give DS9 a second
chance again.

#14 - Posted by: FekleyrTarg (Member) on 02-02-2010 at 11:12
I haven't voted yet. I honestly can't decide. But I would like to make a statement regarding the option "DS9 did not portray Gene Roddenberry's vision of Trek".
I'm not certain about that but "Hippocratic Oath" and "In the pale moonlight" certainly caused ethical and moralic questions and certainly caused people to think about them. Same with ENT's "Damage". And that's good.
And do remember that Sisko stopped Leyton from becoming a military dictator in "Paradise Lost"? I think that Gene Roddeberry would be proud of the writers of this episode. But well, it's just my opinion. smile

#15 - It was Not a Smart Series - Posted by: Saquist (Member) on 02-02-2010 at 18:33
Character Driven series are often lacking in intelligence and DS9 was no different.
It had the dubious distinction of being a continually developed story that was never properly maintained through continuity. The only thing that was tracked in DS9 was it's character's feelings.

But did Federation shields ever over come the phased poleron beam?
Did the Federation have a chance at defeating the Dominion or...NOT?
How come Breen Energy Drainer's work only once?
What ever happened to BETAZED?
How come the Federation's strongest ships were never seen in the most important fights?
Do Ferengi value Gold or not?

All these little questions have only one thing in common. They were throw-away-Plot Device. The producers had obviously copied Babylon 5...(right down to character names) Dukat...Lyta....A Drama driven by war. But they couldn't copy the good writing and the very continuous themes and Plot devices the creator set up for his big finale. Paramount copied the idea but not the creativity. Star Trek's unique Universe provided the rest. The result was Star Trek's 2nd best series after The Next Generation.

As Good as DS9 was it's smartest episode was Trials and Tribblations where the producers and writers came together to create a story that melded with TOS FLAWLESSLY. DS9 was Action and Emotion but it wasn't smart. It wasn't Trek...as we knew it. It was something new.

Without DS9 there would be no No Black Captain, No Defiant, No Dominion, no Jem'Hadar and No Weyoun. DS9 was a huge contributor to the Star Trek franchise. It built up a lineage of characters that interested just about everyone. I couldn't imagine Star Trek without DS9. On the Next Series lets shoot higher , lets go for continuity, lets go for action and drama... and we may just reach those stars.

#16 - Posted by: FekleyrTarg (Member) on 02-03-2010 at 10:28
@Saquist
May I answer your questions:
But did Federation shields ever over come the phased poleron beam?
It looks that way.

Did the Federation have a chance at defeating the Dominion or...NOT?
You mean w/o the Klingons and the Romulans? I don't think so.

How come Breen Energy Drainer's work only once?
Damar, Kira and co captured a Drainer and a countermeasure was found. That's why the Dominion retreated.

What ever happened to BETAZED?
Same as above. smile

How come the Federation's strongest ships were never seen in the most important fights?
You mean the Defiant and the Enterprise-E? IDK

Do Ferengi value Gold or not?
I'm not certain but judging from "Who mourns for Morn", I don't think so. But it's possible that only Quark doesn't value Gold.

#17 - I selected Other because... - Posted by: MJAY (Member) on 02-03-2010 at 11:19
of the series contents in general.

I loved the main plot of Sisko being the Emissary and all the "religious hogwash", as one user put it.

DS9 was Star Trek's big break imo, as it gave us the Star Trek universe from the perspective of someone else, not just the flagship's.

I mean, the flagship (USS Enterprise) isn't going to see, and isn't going to be involved with EVERYTHING that Starfleet or the Federation does. So why should we deliberately limit our viewpoint to the Enterprise? Other Starfleet ships in the series finally became more important then expendable fodder to just boost the glory of the flagship... they became relevant and needed. The Star Trek universe just became vastly better.

#18 - Loved every part of it. - Posted by: Brannigans_Law (Member) on 02-03-2010 at 11:23
I thought it was the best Trek franchise to date. It balanced the "Peacefully into the unknown" part of Star Trek (ie., the Enterprise and Voyager) with the details of holding territory as well as all the cultural, religious and political friction between galactic powers that goes along with that.
I loved how characters developed, allies became enemies and back again. Plus, I liked how the Federation went from a position of strength, curtailed by it's own laws (with the Cardassians) to a position of level-footing (with the hostilities between the Klingons) to total weakness (against the Dominion).
The characters were the best in Trek, and it was a joy to watch them interact.

So, I repeat: Best. Trek. EVER!

Followed by (controversially) Enterprise.

#19 - Posted by: Saquist (Member) on 02-04-2010 at 06:08
@ FekleyrTarg

The questions aren't meant to be answered. If they were meant to be answered the story would done so. It wasn't the direction they were focused on.

It may look like they over came the poleran beam but it could have been just shear numbers alone. We'll never know Because DS9 was unconcerned with their own plot devices.

The Energy Dampner is the perfect example of rushed plot device. In the last Season the Last days of the War. The Allies suffer a loss of 312 ships in Chintoka. Instead of pressing the advantage the Dominion stays confined. The Klingons get 1,500 ships from out of no where to defend the Federation border. These are the last 4 episodes of the series and the weapon is neutralized just before the last episode.

We don't know what happened to Betazed. The writers used it only as a plot device against the main characters, against the audience. Once again unconcerned with a plot device.

In Probably Statistics Jack says there NO way the Federation could win. Not that the Federation couldn't win alone. You'd think a genius could foresee the possibility of other governments joining the fight. But they were unconcerned with the plot device they had initiated.

The same is true about the Dominion abandoning DS9. It would have made sense to destroy it but...they didn't. The Dominion made many mistakes. Too many for them to be considered unbeatable.

This isn't just about continuity it's about tissue paper-throw-away plot devices.
Trek does this as a norm but never is it more evident than in DS9. DS9 isn't episodic, yet it was written episodicly...with very little regard to continuing plot devices.

DS9 was a war story that wasn't about the war...and was about the war. They ignored the true impact of the war as often as possible. The numbers the losses never made a difference, they loss thousands of ships yet they still win as the clear inferior . With the exception of Call to Arms the Dominion never took massive loss in ships. But from what Bashir tells us the Federation took repeated losses of ships. 14 ships survive out of 112. 1 out of 300 survive.

DS9's War never made any sense.

 #20 - @ 19 - Posted by: TiberiousKirk (Member) on 02-04-2010 at 23:03
O'brian or Weayon mentions in the episode with the fall of DS9 that new shields neutralize the dominion's penetrating effect.

The 1,500 ships from the Klingon's were the Qonos Defense force protecting the homeworld, and it took every ounce of persuasion to get those ships to leave the first city unguarded. As for the neutralization of the Energy drainer being neutralized there is a French expression, "of such is life." or "stinks to be the Dominion"

Betazed set up a resistance force and a new dominion station was sabatoged. read the novel "Battle of Betazed."

Jack said there was no way the Federation could win, but he also thought that he could lead the Dominion to victory. Jack was wrong twice, being a genius does not make one infallible.

Exactly how was the Dominion to destroy DS9? Federation ships swarmed the Bajor system and the computer cores were sabotaged. I'm pretty sure the self destruct protocols were disconnected and the Dominion leaders aboard needed to escape not waste time with the station.

I think you expected too much from DS9 writers; there is only so much one can put in an episode or series. Some information had to get sacrificed to
keep the plot moving. Sort of like when a teacher skips a section of material in order to get back on track for the semester schedule.

#21 - Posted by: Saquist (Member) on 02-06-2010 at 07:53

@TiberiousKirk

1-Weyoun's statement only impacts the station DS9.

2-The removal of 1,500 ships to protect the Federation is not a likely event for any government. (That's the problem. DS9 never made it difficult for the success. It was either resolved very quickly or had no significant impact on the show. In other words despite them saying opposite, it was a foregone conclusion that the Federation would win.)

3- The Book "Battle of Betazed" isn't canon.

4- Jack may have been wrong but everyone believed him and Julian checked the numbers. Essentially they were playing up the drama of a no-win-scenario that never materialized in "reality" in any shape or form. In order for the numbers to look as bleak as they were proclaimed the Dominion progress should have been the same odds as not getting struck by lighting. (1/750000. Odds of being struck by lightning in a given year )

5- Overload the Fusion Cores
The Star Trek attitude to writing is a bad one and it's times like these that prove it.
a. "Secondary Command protocols prevent you from destroying the ship"
b. Leaving a station intact for the enemy to use as a staging area.

You realize if they had destroyed the station the Federation would had to have dedicated a lot of ships to protect the wormhole which would draw ships from the front lines

I expect realism like B-5 did more often than not.
You get good writing and realism from books like Enders Game and Foundation which is what Sci Fi used to be. Now it's corny. It's Star Trek and Trek fans have gotten very used to a sub-par standard of story-telling.

 #22 - DS9 / B5 Comparisons - Posted by: BlackRook32 (Staff) on 02-06-2010 at 08:45
While I enjoyed both series equally. I remember this rumor (which turned out to be true to a point) about the Author of Babylon 5 J. Michael Straczynski pitching his ideal about B5 to the Paramount suits and Trek producers back in 1989. On more than one occasion they turned him down. Saying the concept did not relate to the vision of Trek. Straczynski always eluded that DS9 was a rip of Babylon 5.

Lowe and behold in 1992 both DS9 and B5 and a slew of other sci-fi shows premiered in the same year. While DS9 had a slow start. B5 was built on a storyline arc. That was evident from the first episode. What struck me most about the two series. The DS9 Dominion Wars vs. the B5 Shadow Wars & Earth Civil War. IMHO there Babylon was a little more intense. And the CGI shots were not retreads. The Dominion Wars & Worf saved DS9 from a early cancellation.

Though I loved the writing for both, B5 was delved a little bit deeper in to their character's psyche. But in the end it was only a 4 year storyline arch. On this DS9 had B5 beat on how to deal with the "Aftermath" of a War(s) Allowing for DS9 to to come up with more more compelling stories. If anyone remembered the 5th season of Babylon 5 or Crusade? Fell far short of the Original....

Or worse yet "Legend of the Rangers" Puke!

On this score I like DS9 for it's familiarity, longevity & the in depth look into Bajoran/Cardassian/Klingon and even 24th century Terran cultures. But I liked Babylon 5 for the Earth Civil War and the overall Shadow Wars. Which IMHO was better than the Dominion Wars in overall character development & storyline complexity. -BR32

It was one of the best episodes ever!

#2 - Posted by: DoomRaiden (Member) on 01-23-2010 at 07:26
looks like more people like Enterprise then predicted smile ... azati prime kept me asking questions lol

 #3 - Posted by: A_Q (Member) on 01-23-2010 at 17:29
Best of Both Worlds, followed by Scorpian and Year of Hell. I wouldn't say TWoK was a cliffhangar ending- yes, they left it open for a third, but TSfS wasn't finalised until after the premiere...

 #4 - Posted by: Konrad9 (Member) on 01-24-2010 at 08:56
Hah, I liked the Azati Prime cliffhanger for the sheer "WHAT THE FRAK!?" nature, but there were way better ones on that list.

 #5 - Posted by: Nero91 (Member) on 01-24-2010 at 10:55
I'd say TNG's "Best of Both Worlds" and Voyager's "Equinox" (not listed here), mainly because they both were preceded by rumors that Patrick Stewart and Kate Mulgrew would leave their shows after the season they were filmed in.

 #6 - Posted by: RifleMan80 (Member) on 01-25-2010 at 03:51
Best of Both Worlds definitely!

#7 - Posted by: denster (Member) on 01-25-2010 at 06:21
well, since TNG did have the largest fan base since TOS...it's no surprise that "The Best of Both Worlds" took top spot here. But my vote went to "Tears of The Prophets" in the end. Sisko, half prophet? Who woulda thunk that? Certainly explained a lot though.

*sigh*
wish they made a movie for DS9.

The Year of Hell wasn't exactly a cliffhanger, but the ending was certainly a surprise to me. I mean, placing that much trust in Janeway to lower the only protection against a vessel capable of deleting your entire race from time itself.....wow.

#8 - Posted by: Saquist (Member) on 01-25-2010 at 07:13

Voyager....2nd place....really?!

What no Shockwave or Coldfront? But I choose Azati Prime.

* Moderator's Note: I swear some of you people... Sorry, I could not remember every ENT cliffhanger or every two-part episode. Though I liked Star Trek: Enterprise, I wasn't that big of a fan. It's just a frakking poll Dude, lighten up. -BR32

#10 - Posted by: STLegacy (Member) on 01-26-2010 at 08:17
For me, no discussion about it! Definately Voyager's Year of Hell!

 #11 - Posted by: RifleMan80 (Member) on 01-26-2010 at 21:57
Voyager's "Year of Hell" II Parter definitely was an edge of your seat episode. But in all respects, TNG's "Best of Both Worlds", in a way, defined Captain Picard and the rest of TNG as "The Borg are coming again, and we will be waiting for them." The episode itself paved the road for the beginning of the series Deep Space Nine, where Sisko was introduces at Wolf 359. The "Best of Both Worlds" also helped in the creation of Star Trek First Contact, and gave reference to the Wolf 359 Massacre on Voyager. It allowed such great new ideas in the later series and movies.
"Best of Both Worlds" was a given #1.

#12 - The best of both worlds - Posted by: darth5ava63 (Member) on 01-27-2010 at 18:17
Although part 2 sucked so much and "sleep" was a huge let down. The 4 months i had to wait to see it was almost hell. Kids today wait for at the most a weekend or even the next day.

#13 - Posted by: Saquist (Member) on 01-27-2010 at 20:06
Year of Hell....Ba-Sux-ed.

Standard predictable Voyager ending.
Nothing Interesting.
Nothing Dynamic
Nothing Dramatic
Nothing New.

Voyager had much better single episodes than any of it's two parters.

 #14 - Azati Prime - Posted by: BlackRook32 (Staff) on 01-28-2010 at 22:57
Out of all the Star Trek cliffhangers episodes, Azati Prime ranks up there with TNG's BOBW. Nothing says lovin' like the NX-01 getting a beat-down & T'Pol going off the rails! Which was a reoccurring theme in the 3rd season (the Ice princess melted). Besides, giving us a cool hull breech with crewmen being ejected into space! I was on pins & needles waiting for the conclusion. I believe those four weeks were more torture for me, than the four months back in 1991 waiting for the conclusion of BOBW.- BR32

Kirk: We are gathered here today to pay final respects to our honored dead. But it should be noted that this death takes place in the shadow of new life, the sunrise of a new world; a world that our beloved comrade gave his life to protect and nourish. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at these proceedings. Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... human.

Definitely Data. That was so sad.

Data's death was totally pointless. The entire Nemesis film was pointless.

You put Amanda's pointless death and exclude Kirk's!? WTF?

See, this is how I list it:

Spock
Kirk
Jadzia
Data
Tasha

Amanda Grayson shouldn't be there because she isn't dead. Well, she is, actually--since Sarek remarried in the 24th century.

 #7 - Gotta be Ziyal... - Posted by: Brannigans_Law (Member) on 01-16-2010 at 14:01
...It sent Dukat all cookoo-pants and crazy enough to ditch the Cardassian Union, the war with the Federation and jump into bed with the Pagh Wraiths. If he stayed with the Dominion, there may not have been a revolt, he wouldn't have sealed the Wormhole and the Pagh Wraith would never have been released.

All because a 20-year-old girl was bumped-off.

* Moderator's Note: LOL- That 20 year old Girl happen to be Dukat's illegitimate Daughter. Dukat's Cardassian honor called for him to have killed Ziyal for her betrayal of Family. Dukat's own family disowned him when he took his half Bajoran daughter into the fold. Dumar just committed an act Dukat was too cowardly to do himself. He would never have harmed Ziyal. Her death alone drove him over the proverbial edge. -BR32

cool

Wow a few missing here (Kirk, Data, Trip), of the ones listed I'd say Jadzia, she beats Spock only because of the latters resurrection in ST3, kind of killing the impact of his death. Honestly I think Data's death was the most significant, and to me truly made him Human...

 #10 - Posted by: 1DeadlySAMURAI (Member) on 01-17-2010 at 03:42
I voted for Jadzia.

Fact error: Jadzia died in the last episode of season 6 called "Tears of the Prophets".
Not in the seasons sixth episode "Sacrifice of Angels".

 #12 - Ambassador K'Ehleyr... - Posted by: BlackRook32 (Staff) on 01-18-2010 at 00:29
I'm surprised only a few haven't caught onto the consequence's around K'Ehleyr' s Murder? When Duras killed the Ambassador to keep his Father's dishonor at Khitomer from being revealed. That act set in motion the eventual preamble to the Klingon Civil War. When Lieutenant Worf killed Duras, it left a power vacuum that the Duras Sisters Lusor & B'Etor and Gowron tried to fill.

IMHO that was a significant death in Trek History. -BR32

Kirk's death and I know not a person but still part of the family the Enterprise in STIII.

#14 - Tasha Yar - Posted by: Empee (Member) on 01-19-2010 at 03:06
No other Trek death gave me the sense that '[it] changes everything' that Spock's did. My vote is a reflection of that sentiment. However, others have (or could've led) to compelling developments later on. If that were the criteria, I'd have voted for Tasha Yar's duo. Yes, her first death was empty, and her second wasn't even televised. But as with K'Ehlyer's, the consequences snowballed in the form of the resentful Commander Sela. She was arguably the deadliest component of Duras' opposition to Gowron, and came close to snatching Vulcan right from under the Federation's nose in 'Unification.' Plus, I think Nemesis would've enjoyed a better outing if Sela were the villian. At the very least, Shinzon's implausible motivations were offhandedly inspired by her's. And by working with an established character, the creative crew would've had an easier time making the so-called 'Nemesis' relevant to the story. . .

 #15 - Posted by: dep88y (Member) on 01-19-2010 at 04:48
@12. You're right on the money. The key word is significant. However, I am pleased to see other peoples emotions at the profound deaths of key characters. The world isn't as cold hearted as I thought.

 #18 - Posted by: archer9234 (Member) on 01-20-2010 at 10:40
Data's was too pointless. They forgot they had shuttle crafts, and could of fired on the weapons emitters and disabled it, for example.

 #19 - Data's Dead... Really? - Posted by: BlackRook32 (Staff) on 01-20-2010 at 13:07
I believe people are confusing the meaning of this week's poll. The question is who is the "Most Significant Death". Meaning what impact did it have on the overall Trek Universe. Not who is your favorite character.

As for Data. Last I saw on Nemesis (horrid film btw). Data made a copy of his positronic brain. Which was later downloaded into B-4. By the end of the movie, Data's memories just started to kick in to some small degree.

I'll Acknowledge Data's sacrifice for the 1701-E. But for the writers to pull a ST:III retread ala Spock's Katra. Add that along with introducing B-4 as a unnecessary plot device? It really cheapen the entire experience, IMHO.

So, I agree really with comment #14. Nemesis would have been so much better with Commander Sela (or Admiral Sela for the ST: Armada freaks out there stick out tongue)as the Antagonist. Instead of that pitiful creature Shinzon. With cameos from every TNG guest actor/actress who played a Romulan Character over the years.

I could just see Sela & the Romulan Pro-Consul from TNG's -Unification. Plotting to kill the Romulan Praetor and his Loyalists in the Romulan Senate! All in one felt swoop, with that Meta-Genetic Bomb.

Now that would have been "Spectacular"!!

 #20 - More ruminations. . . - Posted by: Empee (Member) on 01-20-2010 at 21:58
Not to mention that could've gotten a far more dramatic, meaningful performance out of Sela, who has unfinished business with Picard beyond his foiling two of her conquests. Upset as she is with her mother for the escape attempt that results in her execution, she blames that and probably much more on Picard's decision to let Tasha Yar backstep with the Enterprise-C. And it's not a stretch to because it's done against his better judgement, for the sake of forfilling a whim that benefitted one person. Jeopardizing the galaxy's continuity because somebody didn't like how they died? That alone could've set the stage for a monologue in which Sela rips Picard as arrogant and hypocritical. But not before baiting the Enterprise-E to Romulus under the pretense of wanting to come to terms with the discords of her life. Cold as she is, I can nonetheless see Sela pulling out all the stops to destroy the man that has exerted a negative influence on her life from day one.

That said, I also feel compelled to lay out why the impact of Spock's death transcends the sentimental. Kirk's illicit return to Genesis with "a Federation Battlecruiser" pushes the Klingons, already suspcious of the Federation's intent with the Genesis Device, closer to war. I also imagine that the relatively light punishment afforded to his brazen actions only add to his notoriety, which General Chang strongly alludes to at his and McCoy's trial. It isn't the smoking gun, but the combination of unflattering and vague answers educed by that line of questioning helps Chang assert that Kirk has no factual basis for asserting his innocence, which one could argue mitigates the difficulty for the judge to declare him guilty.

I say that the most signicant death in the history of Star Trek was the death of Lt. Leslie in the TOS episode "Obsession" no star fleet officer will have the same impact on the universe as Leslie!

He had great lines like "Phasers standing by sir" and "No" and "yes sir". He will be missed!

 #6 - hmm - Posted by: UssGriffin (Member) on 01-10-2010 at 18:48
I'd imagine the Terran's would create an empire but it would be unlike the original empire due to the influence of those starfleet officers that have been pivotal in recent episodes.
A strong terran empire that is less brutal but still very militaristic more so than the current "federation" counterparts.
and due to the "newness" of that empire they would accept many new races.

I wanna find out who exactly took down the human race in a permanent bada.. mode

* Moderator's Note: According to DS9 episode "Crossover". When Spock ascended to the Terran throne. The first "non" human to do so. He changed the Empire's directive to immolate the benign Mirror Federation. Unfortunately, the other Alpha Quadrant species like the Klingons, Romulans and Cardassians saw this as a weakness. Striking when the Empire was most vulnerable. By enlisting subjugated races with a grudge to hold like the Bajorans. They formed the Alliance and conquered the Terran Empire. -BR32

Developers not listing correctly - Site Errors

Some of you may have noticed some developers not listing correctly. For some reason the developer system is screwing up. It is forcing some files to be listed as soundlizzard, even though it appears this person does not even exsist. This is happening on BCfiles as well as other sites that are not even trek related. Each time a developer is added, there is a list of every game site filefront operates below it on the staff side of the site, which a check box next to each name. Checking the box for a site makes that developer visable to staff of that site. Soundlizzard is not listed as a BCfiles dev, so it is not even selectable by our staff, so please do not blame them. I've tried to edit one file in particular, and it refuses to accept the proper developer name (It will accept mine, strangely enough). This is up to the guys with higher levels of access to be fixed. If your file does this, let us know. We'll try to fix it from our end, then pass it up the chain of command if it doesn't work. Obviously, everyone should pay special attention to the readmes and automaticly assume if soundlizzard is listed that it is an error as there is no such modder in the Bridge Commander Community.

Sequel for Star Trek: XII In 2012 - Star Trek General - Media
  Posted by: BlackRook32 on 01-12-2010 @ 00:31 - Source: Tatiana Siegel & Pamela McClintock
This News Item has been viewed 2452 times!
There has been much speculation on the next rebooted Trek film. The suits have given the "Green light" to start production on the Twelfth installment. Under the lead of JJ Abrams and the team of the last production. Here is a excerpt/quote from the some what small Variety.com news article by Tatiana Siegel & Pamela McClintock...

Quote:
The studio has also made the move to transport the untitled "Star Trek" sequel into theaters on June 29, 2012, tying it to the lucrative July 4 sesh.

Released last May, the J.J. Abrams-helmed "Star Trek" cumed $385.5 million at the worldwide box office.

"Star Trek" alums Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have teamed on the script for the sequel with "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof, who also worked on last year's reboot.

Abrams will produce the follow-up with his Bad Robot partner Bryan Burk, but he has yet to ink a deal to lense the sequel.

So, now it's "Official". But the real questions- Will the screenwriters come up with some original material? Or put their twist on rehashing TOS renown episode "Space Seed". This is the Buzz in just about every Trek forum I've come across since the Movie debut last summer. it will be interesting to see this come about. To bad we could not get a Syndicated TV series out of this, with an occasional Feature film.

Here is a link to the original article...

* Sequel for "G.I. Joe", "Star Trek":

 #2 - A New Enemy - Posted by: master_666 (Member) on 01-01-2010 at 02:25
I think there could be a New enemy in the new Universe of "Star Trek XI" or a serie based on the new Film Rock

#3 - Posted by: Henze (Member) on 01-01-2010 at 04:42
hmm i voted for: a film keeping to roddenberry's vision because:

they really didn't had to reboot..i liked the movie but i saw it as an alternative "reality"

a movie about voyager or deep space nine would be nice....like what happened after cisko was gone.....

even if the movie is not about starfleet and it's fancy ships but about the normal people who are family of some of the famous characters..how they lived the moments captain picard was locutus of borg...

 #7 - Posted by: Nero91 (Member) on 01-01-2010 at 11:45
I also put other but for some reason it didn't go through. Anyways I'd love to see an original story line, or maybe something involving Ketaract and his top secret experiment involving Omega Molecules? That happened in Kirk's time according to Voyager's "The Omega Directive" and if done right could actually be really interesting.

I HATE the idea of re-doing Khan, its completely unnecessary since they got it right the first time.

 #8 - GENE'S VISION - Posted by: Saquist (Member) on 01-01-2010 at 17:56
I have to say i want a Movie that PROGRESS Gene's Vision.
We all know that he was too cerebral for his own good and that doesn't make for great entertainment sometimes but ....

Since the Same writers will be doing the next movie..
It's sure to be wack....

The last movie was Fluff...(good Fluff) but fluff nonetheless.
The writers obviously aren't...intelligent enough to give us scripts anything like what's been done in Trek at it's height so I say Prepare for Ultimate Mediocrity just like this one.

 #9 - If there is a new movie... - Posted by: Sovereign_73811 (Member) on 01-01-2010 at 22:35
Then they have to make a STAR TREK movie, not a Star Trek wannabe movie with SW style (although I did like how the phasers actually ripped open the ships, but I the shields should actually work.)

Maybe they should make the next one with the Sovereign XD, and bring back Voyager!

 #10 - Posted by: RifleMan80 (Member) on 01-02-2010 at 00:20
Though Abram's SW style did turn Star Trek into an even greater action packed movie for a new audience. But it does not have the Star Trek feel we have all grew up with and come to love.
I think the next Star Trek movie should use both Original ships, and conform with Gene's vision of the Eden future for humanity. Keeping some of the SW style with real Star Trek would make for an awesome movie. The new Trek lacked the science aswell as the characters Gene and TOS has set. But a little sarcasm is ok, but I wish to see Kirk and Spock at their normal, serious, and, should I say, "Lack of Crap" personalities instead of the new "Smart Ellic", and "Fun" nature the new Trek had. If these are applied to coinform with Gene's creation, I think Star Trek has a brighter future for fans.

 #11 - Posted by: alec371 (Member) on 01-02-2010 at 12:51
hmm i think in keeping with Gene's vision because even though i love DS9 and Voyager they kinda went off the path of peacful exploration. A nice bit of TNG confusing mind games would be nice even without the belovered Data

I like the new alternate reality, though I'm a die hard fan of the "cannon" Star Trek. I think they should find a way to correct the cause of the last movie, or at least the creators should find a way to continue the storyline while sticking to Starfleet's primary mission of exploration.

No question: Return to the original universe smile

 #15 - Interesting - Posted by: Saquist (Member) on 01-03-2010 at 11:47
The fans here on BC Files are far more honest about the movie while on other dedicated forums the Fans gush in fear that they may never get another Trek Movie.

 #16 - Posted by: Toa_Kaita (Member) on 01-04-2010 at 12:41
I praise the new crew and alternate reality, and I believe that the new movie should have a totally new enemy, keep the same pace as the newest movie, and try to integrate Gene Roddenberry's original version. So basically a bit of everything.

* Moderator's Note: I too liked the new crew and alternate reality. The franchise needed this change to survive. But, I rather see a TV series with them and a occasional Movie. But the Fan base doesn't react well to a new species being pushed to the forefront. Like the Xindi on Star Trek: Enterprise. That was a waste, when they could have easily used an established enemy like the Romulans. Having the Crew run into a species years before they should. A VOY species like the Viidians would be wicked!

But, the purpose of the alternate reality is to bring fresh stories too light, not to rehash the TOS series. Since Kirk & Company are starting out their adventures, nearly eight years earlier than they should. So Anything is possible. -BR32

#17 - Posted by: josephdavis (Member) on 01-05-2010 at 07:52
hmm i think we need the klingon war, assuming that its too late in the timeline for romulan/earth war. Before peace there must war.

#18 - Posted by: Erk (Member) on 01-05-2010 at 21:39
THE GORN!!! I want to see that fight against the Gorn captain redone, cause honestly, it was sooo cheezy in the TOS episode.

I honestly love the New Trek, the new crew and the new Enterprise. I originally disliked the new Enterprise, but she grew on me, and I then my uncle said something to me that I'll never forget. We were looking at my cousins model of the TOS Enterprise and he said "That looks like something outta the 60s, noway anyone would build that now."

While I believe that Gene's Vision should be in Star Trek, I can't help but note that when he created Star Trek, the world was a very different place. Hate crimes, segregation, and equal rights were the issue at the times and he fought it with Trek. Today those issues are not as relevant as say, health care or gas. So yes Gene's Vision should be in the new Trek, but it should not be the focus of it.

 #19 - Please... - Posted by: Saquist (Member) on 01-06-2010 at 11:11
Trek didn't need a face lift it needed inspired writing and an upgrade in the effects department. There was nothing wrong with going action adventure for the last movie but the AU wasn't necessary at all for the franchise to survive it was just the easiest and most sell method of doing so.

That's why the story was trash, full enough plot holes and deus ex machina contrivances that would make HG Wells spin in his grave.

If they...when they continue with this universe in the second installment it will get more money because it's an anticipated sequel but I'm predicting a bomb. If they want it do well they need much more believable villains and straight forward story.

 #20 - Posted by: alec371 (Member) on 01-06-2010 at 13:20
I direction i was hopeing for would be a future timeline story maybe on one of the timeships, could be very interesting if combined with various episodes from one of the serie's multi-episode plots like the ds9 tribble escapde alternativly from the perspective of a non-fed ship. But we do seem destined to stick in this vulcanless universe so lets all hope for a kilngon war!

It was alot more practical.

I think its a mess, It took me a half hour to stumble on where the potd was hidden, and It looks messy now, where as before it was rather neat and tidy. Also, i agree on fixing the sites problem areas before screwing with the cosmetic appearance.

I agree with Lint.

 #8 - Posted by: BlackRook32 (Staff) on 12-21-2009 at 15:21
I thought I would post the Poll to establish a couple of points. But It looks like the "General Consensus* of the Filefront community don't like the visual aspects of the main page(s). The change is network wide.

 #9 - Posted by: JimmyB76 (Member) on 12-21-2009 at 16:08
i must admit, i much more prefer, and would rather having, the old style as well...
(also, i dont think the voting has been fixed yet stick out tongue)

I defintely don't like the location and size of the thumbnail for the PoTD....other than that, I can adjust to the new format. I'm just glad the sight is still here.

This is wierd, I can't see half the stuff on the screen (can't see the "New Files/News"). Also, it looks like the polls still aren't fixed confused

#20 - I Don't Care, As long as the Filefront is being repaired... - Posted by: Nero91 (Member) on 12-22-2009 at 01:21
I really could give a rats a** about the new layout right now since half the site functions are still broken after God knows how long, including poll VOTING and POTD rating.

So my comment title reflects what my vote would be if I were able to vote at all.

* Moderator's Note: That would be understandable, if your were paying for anything ?! What you can do? Lose the lousy attitude and WATCH THE LANGUAGE! -BR32

#21 - Posted by: Dalekium (Member) on 12-22-2009 at 05:04
So lets see, they've redesigned the site and voting still does not work. PotD has been relegated to the sidelines, links have been put onto font size large-ish which is far too big for people with low res screens (mine is on 1024x768 and the links make me go "aaaargh, go away").

The whole site looks disproportionate and untidy. I'd much rather have the old one back.

#22 - Posted by: Dalekium (Member) on 12-22-2009 at 05:05
And that wink smiley is not meant to be there.

#23 - Posted by: Saquist (Member) on 12-22-2009 at 05:38
I don't like it.
Why are we fooling around with the site format when nothing works?

#24 - Posted by: Dalekium (Member) on 12-22-2009 at 06:06
I've just discovered the search option is broken as well. I try search for anything and I get "Search Suggestion Error: 500".

Four points for having a happier X-mas ^^

1st: Thanks for your efforts to make BCFiles work again as it should have in the past few weeks (voting system seems to work)

2nd the bad news: I don't want to play Hide and Seek with the files or the PotD which were to find easily until last weekend --> bring the old version back online!

and 3rd....: It's only an advice for those who created the new layout of this Site...
Never change a running system...
And more important: Never run a changing system...

and 4th: Try your best to modify the site further and convince us that it's better that way...

* Moderator's Note: No one is trying to convince you of Anything. Believe Me, I have other things on my mind, of greater importance. It should be noted that this is a "Network wide change". So, If you have a Complaint? It's with the FF Super Admins, not the volunteer staffers on FF. So your frustration is misdirected. Not like we had a say in the Matter. -BR32

 #28 - a few tweaks - Posted by: impdestroyer (Member) on 12-22-2009 at 11:49
make the TOC smaller and right across the top above where the PTOD and mod of the week
move the download index to under the news and newly added files and make them smaller, a different way of listing them would be good too, not sure how though

 #29 - BR32 - Posted by: serverandenforcer (Member) on 12-22-2009 at 23:51
Who at File Front would be the most correct person to talk to about the changes for those who want to... comment about them, and how do we go about contacting that person?

I am not going to go much into it, but the Network Admins know all about the opinions of the new layout (those opinions mainly being all negative),
But if you really want you could always go over to the Filefront forums and post a topic in General Disccusion about your opinions on the new layout. Or perhaps send n0e a private message.

If paying for anything ever guaranteed satisfaction then a lot of consumers out there are upset for no reason.

The economy is bad.
Notice all the SPAM (aka advertisement) FF is allowing on these sites.
The site almost died
Notice the dwindling numbers on BC.
The guys in control are rearranging the curtains around a broken window.

This place needs new life.
We need modders.
We need new Mod Packs.
Lift the silly restrictions on Star Wars vs Trek. (They're the most popular franchises)
Get this place repaired.

* Moderator's Note: It should be noted that most the freeware you have downloaded from this "Broken" site as you call it? Were done by people who volunteer their time and their works to the benefit of other Sci-Fi fans. Who actually participating in modding Bridge Commander. That does not mean playing "Arm Chair Quarterback". Constantly complaining- Yet contributing Absolutely Nothing to the Community.

Most Modders left BC Modding over the years, because of this type of sour attitude. This I have notice since my eight plus years here at BCF. And who can blame them. Thankfully, the Modders who have lasted the longest in the BC Community here, can ignore this type of crap. We need more Modders? How about learning how to Mod yourself? But then again, that dose require skill set, doesn't it... Roll Eyes (sarcastic) -BR32

Here's how to send us up to 2GB of files easily and free - Mods

Due to the recent breakage of the user submit, if you need to send us a file and other 3rd party hosts are not up to snuff, too freaking slow, corrupting your files, or making you wait with download timers and wait periods, I suggest using dropbox.com. The free one gives you 2gb. I was able to download several DJ curtis ships from it at over 700kps. The upload is no slouch either, and will probably go as fast as your connection allows. Plus, we cans erver to server the download link to a specific file if it is extremely large so we don't need our computers to act as middleman drasticly slowing things down. Check it out folks!

File submissions for Chistmas: Your attention please! - Site Errors

To submit files for christmas release, use the old email method of Files@bcfiles.com. Each email should include 2 zip/rar files. One for the mod itself, the other for the pix. If you have 10 ships, send 10 emails, otherwise you'll be over the size limit. If any single ships are over the size limit (I don't know what that is but I've seen atleast 10 megs) use an upload service like rapidshare or megaupload ect. Just make sure the site you use is in english so I can figure out how to download it. I just got sent one that's in russian, and I can't read anything on the page and can't get the files.

Jesus is NOT the reason for the season after all. I do have to share my two cents regarding this holiday time. Christians may have pulled the dark wool over the eyes of most of humanity, but they cannot wipe the slate of history clean. As Christianity (often violently) asserted its influence throughout the Roman empire, it was regarded as necessary to supplant Roman paganism with Christian doctrine/practices.

The official Roman calendar was changed, and the holy days consecrated to Roman deities were converted to events of Christian mythos. December 25 is one of those days. Originally consecrated to the Sun-God Mithra as the day of his birth.

"His birth, life, death and resurrection is what makes life possible, happy, and meaningful!!!!!"

Wrong. The God Emperor of Mankind is the reason why human life is happy and meaningful. Common mistake.

May the Emperor forgive your heresy. Praise the God Emperor!

Star Trek: Phase II's Blood & Fire Pt. I & II ** Released ** - Star Trek General - Media
Posted by: BlackRook32 on 12-20-2009 @ 10:52 - Source: Star Trek: Phase II
This News Item has been viewed 3771 times!
The Second part of "Blood and Fire has been released by Star Trek: Phase II. This was during the Thanksgiving Holiday(s). But for those of you who are not familiar with this production? Here is a quick synopsis...

The story begins with the Starship Enterprise getting raked over the coals by a D-7 Klingon Battlecruiser. The premise of the story centers around Captain Kirk's nephew Ensign Peter Kirk joining the Enterprise. What caught my attention about Star Trek: Phase II? The cool battle scenes. That were taken to a new level with the last episode "World Enough And Time". I also noticed the Ship damage textures looked like something from modded Bridge Commander?! Though the plasma leaking from the nacelle was top notch for TOS.

Here we will get to see Kirk & Company met their match. The Klingons in this episode finally show some back bone! Playing it up as the constant thorn in the Federation's side. The ole 1701 takes a real pounding in this episode. After the skirmish, the Enterprise is in shambles. One torpedo away from being a nearly dead Hulk.

The Enterprise responds to a distress call from the U.S.S. Copernicus * NCC-1893. (this models begs to be brought to Bridge Commander) Only to find the ship infested with Regulan Blood worms. Though mentioned in TOS canon, this production adds to the lore, making for a interesting story. One thing really I enjoyed besides the excellent writing? The Acknowledgments to canon TOS, TAS, TNG and even ENT, lol. You have too know where to look for them.

Not to give anything away, but in my opinion the plot really speaks to the early vision of Trek. That has been lost over the years. A morality tale with lessons to be learned- Classic TOS.

Now this particular script "Blood and Fire" was pinned for Star Trek: The Next Generation by David Gerrold for TNG's first season. This was later re-written into the TNG episode "The Outcast". Which involved Commander Riker and a Androgynous alien. This ST:NV teaser is dedicated to all AIDS / HIV victims. So, the episode has Adult content dealing with same sex relationships. It's my purpose here, to endorse and support all Trek fan films.

The latest episodes are available for viewing in flash format. In their download section on the STNV site. You can click on the banner above, or the link below.

I will add a PG-13 tag on the corner of this news item. Because, some Parents don't check what their little darlings are looking at. Parents- That is Your Responsibility. That being said, This is a **General Warning** before commenting. Any derogatory remarks made in the news thread? Will result in post deletion and a ban from commenting.

Hey guys,

After receiving some ideas from people about my old(extremely old, i was 14-15, now 21) movies and the constant push of them asking for new movies, i think it's time. 2010 is a nice year, and after the great star trek movie, i think i shall release on new year or christmas, it depends, a cool special movie. Perhaps a cool crossover, or something original.

So, thumbs up!

I thought it was a great Star Trek movie smile Not as good as First contact or Nemesis but definately one of the best ones. It had some flaws, but it was WAAAAY better than "The Final Frontier" Puke!

I bought it on Blu-Ray and it has so many cool special features!

You do know that The Onion is satirical news and not real news right? i.e. Colbert and Stewart

I know this is the wrong place to ask, but has anything been made in the sense of being immersive to bridge commander where you can walk over to a replicater and make some tea? then have a sound effect of drinking it? Just thinking, no deep space experience is complete without tea....

ST: Excalibur is what you need to be keeping an eye on. This will blow STO out of the water and it will be free(since its being developed by the best peeps in the BC community and not some company).

#19 - Hated it!!! - Posted by: logicisonlythebeginning (Member) on 12-07-2009 at 00:40
An appalling thing that was not even a film let a lone Star Trek. jj put people in front of a camera then said it was Star Trek. There was nothing Star Trek in it. Mr. Roddenberry is rolling in his grave. What an insult.
