Enterprise catagory comment cleanup - General announcements
  Posted by: Starforce 2 on 04-23-2005 @ 02:04
This News Item has been viewed 1,473 times
As some of you may have noticed, many of the comments under the mods in the Enterprise Series catagory have dissapeared or been edited. This is because I sent the new moderators into the catagory with orders to delete any comment that was not about the file posted above. Discussions about the show and people just generaly complainging or arguing about canon, the timeline, the producers, inacuracies, and other such topics do not belong there and have been deleted. I'm sure some of you have heard about authors of these mods being hesitant to release things because they are sick of their mods or others being trashed by people, members and guests alike, who cannot accomplish the simple task of staying on topic when commenting under an Enterprise mod. I expect the Enterprise section, and really, all files on the site, to stay on topic. Moderators are spreading out to other sections and deleting nonsence postings as well. The comments under a given file, news, POTD, Poll, ect are to be used to discuss that file, news, POTD or poll, only. We have forums for discussing general startrek or bridge commander issues at both gamingforums and BCU, as well as at some smaller sites created by mod teams and clans. Please utilise those to discuss things unrelated to the item you are posting under.

I am also planning another poll soon about disabling guest commenting. If you have an opinion that warrents more than simply pressing the vote button, post it here.

...could exist a system that only allows to submit a vote after the posting of a comment, and of course the guy must be a member...

you should have to vote on an item to get the "privilege" to leave a post about it. Guest posting also is a recipe for disaster--like having a ferengi handle your money. cool

I agree Nr. 1, and also find it a good idea!
To remove anything that is not related to the file that was posted.

I think taht about 30% of guest posts slag off the files in general. If we remove the ability for guests to post, there will be a lot less postings.

Suggestion:
Maybe you could encourage membership by allowing only members to download stuff, so then you know which members are ripping files.

Also you should have to rate before posting - cause i always forget one of the two.

To be honest, a lot of the comments about Enterprise are really getting out of hand. Everyone has the right express their opinion, but when they can't express it in a responsible way, it really doesn't matter if it's their right. And the people of who run the site have every right to chose the content of the site.

Could Guest comments be limited to, say 200 or so characters and a limit of one posting per IP per topic? That I suggest as a measure of control hover my oppinion would be to just do away with Anon postings. I don't remember any particular places where I've seen this done though I know I have seen i done but I don't at all remember a place where cutting off Anonymous post had a negative impact. If you do it, don't look back and everything will be alright.

I think it's an ok idea but it kinda extreme. I admit that the guest posters are 40-50% flames and such and (maybe wrong) some users with accounts post as guest if they feel like spaming. Maybe it's time we did ban it. I don't think there would be any real negitive effects to the site it's self because guests can still download and it may even make more people join. It's just asame that a few guest are runing it for everyone. Anyway maybe logging the Ip of the guest and banning it if the comment is to far off whats exceptable that way even if it's a member you could ban the the Ip address.

When posting comments, you must follow these rules:
  1. No "Yay I got First Post!" posts, no exceptions and no matter what other content the post has!
  2. No Pornographic Material. Any sexually oriented imagery or links to such content will not be tolerated.
  3. No Warez or Illegal Software. This includes linking to software, posting about it, and suggesting to get it.
  4. No Cursing or Swear words. We encourage you to use our comment sections as a forum to debate files, news, etc., but please use proper adjectives to express yourself. We will not tolerate abuse upon another member or author.
  5. No Attacks / Retaliation of any kind against a member, or group of members.
  6. Please do not advertise for other sites or forums here.
  7. Maximum of 3 smileys per regular member.
The high interactivity of this site should be considered a luxury, not a right. If you cannot follow these simple rules, you can and will be warned or banned from the comments, site or the entire network for any period of time.
Now enjoy yourself and behave!
