New BC mod, Aftermath - Mods
  Posted by: Starforce 2 on 07-02-2009 @ 14:32 - Source: http://theaftermathmod.star-trek-games.com/
This News Item has been viewed 932 times!
Introducing a new mod to venture into Bridge Commander; Aftermath.

As some people may already know, Aftermath is one of a few highly successful Legacy mods that revolutionized gameplay and mod creation within the Legacy modding community. With over 2years worth of modding for the Legacy engine, Aftermath will be making its first venture into other games starting with Bridge Commander.

However, instead of porting Legacy Aftermath directly into Bridge Commander; the BC version of Aftermath will have its own identity that differs to its Legacy counterpart. The same level of detail and work ethic that is displayed will be consistent in the BC version of Aftermath. Aftermath has always maintained fun and engaging gameplay with dark undertones and this style of gameplay will be transferred over to Bridge Commander. How exactly the transition goes is all under wraps but we have an extensive future planned out for BC Aftermath.

BC Aftermath will contain new ships that are balanced to provide all users a consistent gameplay experience without favoring a particular specced machine. This means all players of various computer specs will be able to have the same experience as higher end machines without sacrificing quality. This has always been a key feature of Legacy Aftermath and the same principle will be displayed in BC. The ships will be balanced to provide opportunities ranging from deep space exploration, one on one combat and right through to large scale fleet battles.

As is to be expected with any ST mod, canon values are always an area. This is an area in which we will follow the basic canon principles but have everything balanced without granting a race god-like abilities. We are aiming for fun, fair and balanced gameplay. We want to provide the player with variety and add new elements to tactical gameplay where people will have to make more careful decisions when entering combat scenarios.

One thing Aftermath has guaranteed are a reliable release flow. This means we will have regular releases without large and lengthy development times. We will have small scale releases that build a base for a much larger future.

Our home site is currently undergoing some site changes but will be fully operational soon.

I am suspending file posting till this mess is sorted - Site Errors

One of my own mods has been corrupted. One was in the wrong catagory and when I moved it, it killed the download, the New posts are occasionally dissapearing and the top 20 downloads are not updating either. With all this malfunctioning crap going on, anyone who uploads a decent file will be cheated out of a top 20 rank if earned and the download will likely be broken. Thus, I am suspending all file posting untill the people in charge of fixing the site get things taken care of. There's little point in posting thats nobody can download.

My vote is for Species 8472.

 #2 - Posted by: Commander_One (Member) on 06-22-2009 at 17:41
I'd like to learn more about the tholians

 #3 - Posted by: windwaker450 (Member) on 06-22-2009 at 21:32
Well, good news! They're making another one. And probably one after that. Personally, I'd like to see more Klingon action, but it makes sense to go with the Romulans after this one. It really depends on what the time gap between them is. If it's long enough, I would really like to see the Tholians.

I dunno, we'll see.

 #4 - Posted by: Nero91 (Member) on 06-22-2009 at 22:35
I've always wondered in the back of my mind how Kirk and Spock would stand up against the Borg. I also wouldn't mind seeing the Cardassian's in the next one (which had been greenlit a month before this one was released). Making the Klingon's enemies again after so many years of them being allies seems "backwards."

 #5 - Posted by: Spatial_Anomaly (Member) on 06-23-2009 at 03:11
Tholians are the only race that hasn't really been explored I think. Although they don't really have the slick look that Abrams and company are looking for to ensure mass appeal.

 #6 - huh - Posted by: Nebula (Member) on 06-23-2009 at 07:04
why are theKlingons so high??

we've seen enough of them...

how about the Gorn??

#7 - Posted by: Henze (Member) on 06-23-2009 at 09:19
#4 wasn't it that picard and his ship encountered the borg for the very first time because of Q?? if that was the case...then the borg cannot apply for a role in a new startrek movie about kirk and spock...

#8 - Posted by: Karronade (Member) on 06-23-2009 at 11:07
#7 why not? They blowed up Vulkan. So now you can rewrite the entire Star Trek History. Everything is possible now. That is the shoot about this new movie.....

#9 - Klingons ftw - Posted by: josephdavis (Member) on 06-23-2009 at 11:07
I believe if they want go tell a decent story and have action then klingons ftw. Threw star trek series/films who has posed more of a threat. Now some may argue that the borg were biggest threat however they seem all to easy to get rid of. However we keep seeing the klingons hurting the feds harder then anyone else. In the episode with ENT C, we saw that they had brought the fed's to their knee's, they hurt Kirk more then anyon else when the killed his son.

Klingons are warriors simple as. Bringing them back on screen would result in an amazing display of action and hopefully a better story.

#10 - Posted by: CanadianBorg (Staff) on 06-23-2009 at 11:40
It'd be interesting to see the Ent-E time travel back to the era of TMP or TOS and bring the Borg with it by mistake.

-CanadianBorg

P.S. Resistance is futile, eh?

 #11 - Posted by: Jonathan_Kent (Member) on 06-23-2009 at 11:43
Tholians. They could be a gold-mine of race and culture potential for a villain.
"Life Jim, but not as we know it" wink

 #12 - Rommies - Posted by: jacobdrj (Member) on 06-23-2009 at 12:32
Unfortunately, despite the last 2 films, some TNG face time, a cameo in Voyager and the like, since TOS, the Romulans never got their due. While we have recently seen a couple of Romulan villains, the intrigue of the Romulan Empire, which still resonates as an analogue to China and other communist countries, has always fascinated me. However, JJ appears to be going another direction and would probably not pursue any sort of galacto-political agenda in any future Star Trek films he has any hand in.

Klingons would sell more tickets because people, even non-Trekkies, 'care' about Klingons. And while I loved their role in TNG, and the later TOS-Cast films, I feel they have been overdone. Without an episodic storyline, the only way you can pull off a really deep plot with either of these species is to string along a multi-part movie on the scale of the Star Wars trilogy or Lord of the Rings.

I feel, however, that JJ is leaning towards a re-introduction of and a re-invention of Khan. Reason being that in the Wired magazine 'comic' there was heavy focus on that event, and all the interview I have seen with the film crew of Star Trek seem to focus on it. Keep in mind, Khan would be a little different because this would be the 1st meeting between Kirk and Khan, unlike ST2, where it was their 2nd. Also, if JJ takes any cues from Enterprise, they can expound upon the Eugenics stuff a lot more.

But if it was more than a villain I was picking. If I was picking a storyline to be redone, the one with the most untapped potential, is Mirror Universe. The same, but different...

#13 - The Terran empire - Posted by: trevorjpilkington (Member) on 06-23-2009 at 12:57
I would love to see what the Terran Empire like in this new time line but them again seen the they was not around when Romuls destroy nero would have not have gone back in time to destroy them in the Mirror Universe. If it even around

#14 - Posted by: Grig (Member) on 06-23-2009 at 13:43
I hate that DS9, VOY and TNG never happened now... such wonderful stories and wonderful characters simply 'pop' out of existence... the Wolf 359 never happened. The Dominion never invaded from the Gamma Quadrant. Voyager never destroyed the Borg network... all gone frown

However, if I was to choose an enemy I'D like to see... it'd be the mirror universe. Many games have dealt with the Terran Empire cracking open the fabric of space and leading a war fleet against the feds. I'd like to see that - seeing Kirk and maybe Spock trapped in the alternate universe trying to get back while McCoy and Scotty lead whats left of the Enterprise crew and the rag-tag Fedoration fleet (maybe with the Roms and Klingons setting aside their hatred of the feds to join the attack) against the invading Terran horde...

Now that's entertainment wink

#15 - Posted by: Henze (Member) on 06-23-2009 at 22:36
#7 i'd like startrek movies as canon as possible but whatever...hey, if people want the borg in a cannon as possible set: why not make a movie about the research of the hansens(7 of 9 family)?? you can do anything with that since you do not know much about what happen except that they got assimilated in the end and the ship crashed...so you could let them see how the borg assimilates the entire worlds, let them go to planets, see how the borg assimilates and got almost assimilated them selves, battles between the borg and other races in space, and in the end of the movie you can see how they got assimilated...and maybe, a little part of sevens borg life where she meets Captain Janeway and her crew...

#16 - Posted by: Grig (Member) on 06-24-2009 at 13:40
That'd never happen - the DS9, TNG and VOY era's don't exist anymore. Any new movies 'll be about the great Kirk and his assorted adventures humping the universe Roll Eyes (sarcastic)

#17 - Posted by: Henze (Member) on 06-24-2009 at 14:43
#16 then kirk happens to be the father of annika hansens father which will return in flashback when they are telling stories about how kirk would have fixed it?? they missed some beatuiful stories out there...movies about the cardassians controlling bajor....about the maquis, how did it start using b'leanna torres or chakotay as lead character...star trek does not have to specifically following a crew on a federation starship it could be anything in the universe...movie about the vulcans: the teachings of surak, the beginning...the beginning of the borg using a neighbour race which will be following the happening and being partially assimilated in the end!....so yeah..why a crew on a ship with a (wellknown captain)...big grin

#18 - Posted by: xpwolf (Member) on 06-24-2009 at 23:47
Personaly, i would go with new races since trek is all about exploration. However I also would love to see a movie based entirely in the lost era between TMP and TNG. Show us how the Ambassador class and her sisters would look in the new time line JJ!

 #19 - next movie - Posted by: Benh287 (Member) on 06-25-2009 at 12:30
i heard on youtube that shatner might be the next one as cameo
coz he wants kirk or someone to have a flash forward or sumats to his future self :S
hahaha
he was guna be in the recent one in spoks (leornard nemoys) flash back story thing but he said he didnt get the invite.
i personly think that it should be the klingons because this kirk hasnt met them yet and maybe have some tribles as well =D

#20 - Andorians XD - Posted by: Kolto (Member) on 06-25-2009 at 12:46
You know we never really have seen that much of the Andorians, in the whole of Star Trek like one class of their ships has ever been shown, a handfull of characters and barely any in depth exploration of the race as a whole, sure we got to see parts of Andoria in ENT thats pretty cool but thats about it and i think theyre just a plain awsome race big grin

#21 - Posted by: Grig (Member) on 06-25-2009 at 15:08
If I could choose ANYTHING that I'd want to see I'd want to see a show about Sulu cataloging Gaseous anomalies - alright, true, the Excelsior is a butt-ugly ship... but Sulu is a great captain - he deserved his own show/movie Rock

#22 - Posted by: Henze (Member) on 06-26-2009 at 05:27
@18, my point...why following a crew in battle smile, the uss raven had a exploration/research mission smilebecause they got assimilated in the end you still have beautiful action smile

 #23 - Dominion - Posted by: BernardB (Member) on 06-26-2009 at 07:03
Forgot about the Dominion. What if the enterprise would encounter dominion forces and started a war that lasted till ds9 era or even more. than all the tng/voy/ds9 characters would be more millitaristic and ships more cannon and heavilly armed. Then eventualy federation becomes a concuering race wich bodly destroys anything.

 #24 - A new Race - Posted by: master_666 (Member) on 06-26-2009 at 09:25
with a new race you can make much new ships with a brand new design!
and i think thats the best

#25 - Its gonna be 4 movies and a series... - Posted by: afcZman (Member) on 06-26-2009 at 13:14
(if the movie before each does good enough)with the same people so yeah there's no reason at all for the 24th century races being in this poll. So, I voted for the tholians.

@Grig What are you smoking? Ofcourse everything still happened. How do you NOT know that when it has been explained to you over and over again from various interviews and articles and so on? Have you read Countdown yet? Look at STO, it takes place in 2409 and the Road to 2409 articles cover everything that happens from NEM to what happens in Countdown 9 years later and beyond to obviously the year 2409. Its all tied in to STO. What is there to not understand? (obviously you don't understand something since you even thought it was possible that the events of the 24th century never happened...its kinda laughable really)

#26 - Posted by: seawulf (Member) on 06-27-2009 at 20:47
THE ICONIANS!!! THAT WOULD BE EPIC!!! A 20 year old legend born in the TNG episode Contagion. I'd love to see this ancient force rebuilt and confronting the alpha quadrant for the first time since their believed destruction.

#27 - Posted by: Henze (Member) on 06-28-2009 at 06:22
#23, someone on my way wink the startrek universe as we SHOULD know it, did not end yet...still many movies are hidden between the available stories

#28 - Posted by: Grig (Member) on 06-28-2009 at 16:01
@ #25 Look there's no need to insult me - I haven't been smoking NOTHING and am just as intelligent as you are. The New Trek movie takes place before the TOS - Vulcan was destroyed. Histroy was re-written and everything was restarted.

To my 'laughable mind' that means that the DS9, TNG, TOS and VOY eras never happened. Ironically Enterprise - the series that was so panned and mocked - is the only thing that 'really' happened in the new Trek Universe because it happened before this movie.

From what I've read on memory alpha and the various boards this Spock and Nero screwed up the time line. Kirk is captain almost half a decade before he should be. The Fedoration is far more militant and prepared for war than it would be in its original universe. Spock is unmarried. The Romulans are now reveled far before they should have been (as in the Balance of Terror) and everything that happened in the new movie has obviously NEVER happened in DS9, TNG, TOS or VOY because Vulcan was still in existence in those universes and the Romulans were almost never seen.

THAT is what makes me sad - that the original cannon is now void because of this new series. I take my hat off to J.J and the cast/crew for the new trek. Without it the series would still be dead and mocked every time you signed onto a forum. However, I will miss the original cannon for a long time to come.

 #29 - Posted by: Azron_Stoma (Member) on 06-29-2009 at 00:27
Gorn, Gorn and more Gorn,

maybe Tholians too but mostly Gorn, complete with the compound eye dealy which really set them apart from other Lizardman aliens out there.

 #30 - Posted by: Azron_Stoma (Member) on 06-29-2009 at 00:40
Grig you just don't get it, you don't understand how time travel works in Star Trek, though to be fair, most of the characters and even the writers didn't, but the new movie sets it straight if you were paying attention, which you clearly weren't and obviously aren't as smart as afcZman or I, at least in this case...

Star Trek Time Travel the way most people, even in universe, hell, even the Krenim think it works.

you go back in time, you change things, the Timeline you came from is irrevocably changed and/or destroyed due to time paradox (you change stuff so that things never existed)

the way Star Trek TIme Travel REALLY works

You go back in time, you change things, the Timeline you came from is still there, but you are now living in an alternate reality, a paralegal universe, the old canon is still going, Picard and the Enterprise E are still exploring strange new worlds, and the Dominion are still at peace with the Federation, Voyager has returned home safe and sound.

In fact, there are numerous differences in the new trek such as the Kelvin's size and interior design with other factors that more than slightly tells us that the coming of Nero and Spock wasn't where the new Trek's timeline starts to differ from the classic trek.

for example, Scotty in classic trek never developed transwarp beaming, granted we don't know if he inveted it post Relics or not, but even so.

also the Jellyfish was the "fastest ship" and yet it could only go to Warp 8

Vulcan is much closer to earth, or Warp is much faster, since the trip from earth to Vulcan only took hours or even minutes.

Delta Vega is in close proximity to Vulcan, rather than at the edge of the Galaxy.

the Kelvin, Enterprise, and other Federation ships are larger than Galaxy Class vessels!

The community links on every Network site has been compromised and they redirected to a illegal warez site.
We have corrected this but unfortunately we could not recover the links to restore them. As a result all of the links have been deleted to protect the people who sent the original links into us.
While this could be seen to be a set back we are taking the view that although this has caused all the staff some extra work it is still a good time for a fresh start as some of the links were probably dead ones.
Some site managers have already started restoring known links on there sites Two Thumbs Up!

We would like you to either resubmit any link you had on your chosen site and submit new ones.
You can find the link in the left menu under "The Community"

Anyone visiting the links section lately will notice they are being redirected to another site for all or nearly all of them. I am actualy quite surprised we've not recieved any complaints. At any rate, if you are one of the people who backed up the actual pages of bcfiles, and have the original urls for any of the links on our link page, we would appreciate getting that from you somehow, and soon. There's no way to simply revert the links back. If we can't, we'll simply delete all of them and start over.

...to be a staff member here ?
Have you ever been looking over your favourite game site and thought that you could really help out ?
If the answer is yes then we would like to hear from you. We are now recruiting staff for all sites and hopefully some new ones.
Some of our sites are fully staffed at the moment but don't let that stop you from applying to join our very friendly team here.
If your preferred site is fully staffed you will still be contacted to see if you could help out on a different site. We will still pass your details on to the site manager for that site just incase they need a extra pair of hands.

So what do we need from you to join us. Well not much really to start with.
First you must be 16 or over and have regular Internet access.
You must have good understanding of English (this is for news items and so on)
You must own the game for the site/s you are applying for, with the ability to run custom content (for testing submitted files)

If your application is accepted then you will also be required to register on our forums and visit the staff section at least once a week as updates and requests are posted there.

To apply simply copy the below template into a email and send it of to network@filefront.com
Make sure you fill out the games section including the ones that we do not have sites for at the moment.

Thanks for reading

Man oh man, was this one hard for me. There have been too many great mods released this time...its hard to pick just one. But in the end I went with the NX Miranda.

Hey all,

I am pleased to announce a few promotions for the network.

Mr.Funsocks, the lovable, huggable Network Administrator has been promoted to Asst. Network Manager and will become my right hand dealing with issues that arise on FileFront's game sites.

Goody10 of soldier of fortune files has been promoted to Network Administrator.
FFxStalkerx of stalker files has been promoted to Network Administrator.
Guyver3212 of WoWFiles has been promoted to Network Administrator.

The above three have shown fierce determination in ensuring that the network thrives and pushes forward. When it came to the need to add some fresh faces to fill in those ranks, it certainly wasn't easy to sift through all of the staff who easily deserve such recognition of their hard work, but these three came out on top and I'm sure you will see great things happen with them lurking about.

Congrats to all of you. Each and every one of you has earned this and should be proud!

 #2 - Posted by: Dr_McCoy11 (Member) on 05-31-2009 at 16:13
I would like to see Earth-Turian Alliance ships from Mass Effect as well as Asari Ascention ship, the Citadel, some Reapers and of course hero ships - Sovereign and SSV Normandy... these would make a perfect addition to BC wink

Second wish would be some ships from the first Starship Troopers movie...

and the third wish USS Saratoga and Hammerheads from Space : Above and Beyond

that's about all for now wink

#3 - Honestly, I dont care for any ships from other scifi... - Posted by: MJAY (Member) on 05-31-2009 at 17:44
To me, Star Trek has the most beautiful ships. Very nicely designed. Star Trek ships reflect effort. Unlike, other sci-fi ships in which the designers seem to just slap a bunch of blocks together, stick on some windows, and call it day.

I mean, honestly... I find the ships in Stargate to be the most grotesque... Especially, human and wraith ships. I found Prometheus and Daedalus to be largely unimpressive... as if they didn't even try... and Hive ships...? Hive ships look like they're modeled after someone's hand, and they just slapped some windows and bad colors on.

Galactica looks like a damn whale... nuff said.

Those other sci-fi shows.... those things floating around in them were ships? *sarcasm*
Only Star Wars has some decent ships I wouldnt mind seeing. More Naboo craft would be nice. There was a nice big space plane in Star Wars that looked very cool... then again, I shouldnt be impressed with a ship made entirely of shaders. xD

Nah, only more Star Trek ships (canon or non-canon doesn't matter) for me please.

 #4 - Firefly!! - Posted by: Garibaldi81 (Member) on 05-31-2009 at 18:22
Some Ships from Firefly would be great, especially the Serenity. Two versions would be great, one with no weapons like the show, and one modified with a weapon or two like the movie. Serenity was a beautiful ship!

#5 - Posted by: Tennispunk (Member) on 05-31-2009 at 19:18
I'd like you see The Roger Young from Starship Troopers. Would be fun to go against a fleet of those.

 #6 - Posted by: 1DeadlySAMURAI (Member) on 05-31-2009 at 19:24
Babylon 5, Stargate, Star Wars, Space - Above and Beyond, Homeworld, Independence Day etc.
The list can be made LONG!stick out tongue

#7 - Posted by: craign (Member) on 05-31-2009 at 21:47
Halo halo halo halo! The Covenant ships are beautifully designed, and the UNSC ships (although not as beautiful as Star Trek) are quite cool.

Yeah. Halo halo and more halo.

#8 - Posted by: DarkTerranEmpire (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 00:09
People voted Star Wars and Stargate for the most part... Hey, guys, we already have a lot of ships from those movies !
What about Space : Above and Beyond, Halo, Warhammer 40k and Wing Commander games ? Only the Vesuvius is available on this site ! frown

#9 - Thousands to chose from... - Posted by: Brannigans_Law (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 01:57
Look at the quality of ships form other games? The Advent Rising ships, Mass Effect, Homeworld and Nexus, Hegemonia etc. not to mention the lesser done sci-fi like Warhammer 40K and BattleTech.

There's so much to chose! Star Trek ships are very impressively designed, for the most part, and well done, but I sort'a wish that instead of having a dozen different Defiant or Jem'Hadar models, that we had more variations. If I was better at it, I'd make some myself.

 #10 - Homeworld - Posted by: master_666 (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 01:57
I think more Ships from Homeworld (computergame) would made an unmatched
gameplay feeling

 #11 - Posted by: Bashir_74656 (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 02:06
The Nostromo of Alien would be cool.

 #12 - craign - Posted by: Capt_Kadman (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 03:15
@ 7 i totally agree with you! the cov ships are epic. no question, and have some awesome weapons. and id love to put a hole straight through the 1701-E with the MAC cannon of a UNSC ship, and then watch my ship melt from the covenant plasma all down the side. altho i doubt even the much versatile BC could show that hapenning... maybe one day. anyway im off 2 read some more tutorials....

#13 - Posted by: majormagna (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 03:27
Voted "Other- Computer Game" purely because I'd love to see some EVE Online ships... (Even if BC doesn't support customisable loadouts, some basic stuff would be great)

#14 - Posted by: KrrKs (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 03:45
Voted for other Sci-Fi series. Would be fun to see some "Space Patrol Orion" and / or "Perry Rhodan" Ships in BC. (Even though Most PR ships would be considered as GodShips.) But I still don't have enough time to Mod one of those.Cry

#15 - Posted by: arrowthing (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 05:07
I'd have loved to see Red Dwarf somewhere.

#16 - Posted by: Karronade (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 09:14
I voted for "Other Sci Fi Series", because I wanna see some ships from the german-mini-TV series Space Patrol in ST:BC. Have a look:

i have to say Star Wars apart from the 2 fighter packs most of the ships currently avaliable are outdated and limited to the Large Star Destroyers and Mon Calamari cruisers.

STARGATE is awsomeBeer! Beer!Hmmm Donut!

For some reason it won't let me vote. I choose Other - Computer Game, then click the vote button, and it just does nothing. =[

 #20 - Posted by: champion1642 (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 13:50
Stargate all the way!! I just want better quality ships. not that the ships that already exist aren't good quality, but they aren't great. and plus it would be great to have a stand off between Atlantis, and the Super Hive.... now that would be awesome. course it would be great to have some other sci fi ships as well, especially the one from serenity. Andromeda, I never liked the show, but the ship designs were OK at best.

mainly stargate atlantis and the new universe ships would be great....

 #21 - Posted by: scooter42069 (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 15:13
My vote is for Spaceballs. I would love to see a Spaceball 1 that MVAM's in to mega maid, or a winnebago with wings that shoots raspberry jam torps that knock out sensors.

 #22 - starcraft - Posted by: rilsTRON (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 15:30
i might be dating myself here but i think any of the terran or protoss ships from starcraft / brood war would be pretty cool... i'd like to match up a few fully-upgraded terran battlecruisers against a negh-var and a bird-of-prey or two...

#23 - Posted by: seawulf (Member) on 06-01-2009 at 18:32

 #26 - Farscape - Posted by: sovrin (Member) on 06-02-2009 at 00:04
OK I voted for more StarGate ships because there are still a few that I would really love to get my hands on. One ship I have been dieing to see in BC is a Peacekeeper Command Carrier. That behemoth would be sweet.

 #27 - Posted by: Augur89 (Member) on 06-02-2009 at 02:29
I would love to see the Taelon Mothership and the shuttle from Gene Roddenberry's Earth Final Conflict

I can imagine, it's not easy to make them because of the energetic effects but they are definately missing wink

I'm both shocked and dismayed to see how few Doctor Who fans there are here! Doctor Who is arguably one of the greatest sci-fi shows of all times and is now also the longest running sci-fi show in history. If you have only seen episodes from way back (say from the Tom Baker years) and are thinking “that show is so cheesy and dated, why would we want to include ships from that show,” or you have never seen the show at all, then you really need to check out the new updated version of the show that has been running for the past 4 years now. Doctor Who has come a long ways from its early days and now finally has a production quality to match the great stories the show has always had throughout the years, and I would say that as far as FXs go it is now at least on par with most American sci-fi shows. They have had some absolutely awesome ships and space stations during the past 4 years that would be so cool to bring into BC!

First, and most importantly, you have the Daleks. The new updated version of the Daleks (and their ships) actually live up to their reputation as the most dangerous and powerful malevolent race to ever exist (second only in technology to the Time Lords themselves), and would, for the purpose of the game, easily be on the same level as the Borg if not more powerful. And just imagine Dalek ship launching waves of flying Daleks like fighters!

Next there are the Sontarans—A race of clone warriors, small in stature, but totally unafraid of dying and willing to fight to the last man to accomplish their goals. Not much is know about the combat capability of their ships, but their design is rather cool and original, and would make a great addition to the game.

Then of course there have been a myriad of "alien of the week" ships and space stations that have appeared over the past 4 seasons that have all been really interesting and unique!

#33 - Posted by: arrowthing (Member) on 06-04-2009 at 04:48
Doctor Who is great, but in terms of playable ships - naa. There is a tardis somewhere on the site, can't remember where. It's just not easy to put in those ships into bridge commander. I don't recall much space combat in Doctor Who, and i mean classic and new series. Maybe i just missed it, i dunno.

 #34 - Posted by: Capt332 (Member) on 06-05-2009 at 04:07
Would love to see the Balance of Judgement in BC from Andromeda! That ship looked rather cool and was a fleet in itself!

Red Dwarf ship!!! yeah. also i'd like to see soem other stuff bu t i've forgotten what! stick out tongue

We have enough stargate ships.

We might want to remove the top 2 or top four and have another go at this list.

#37 - new ships - Posted by: UssGriffin (Member) on 06-07-2009 at 03:33
how about the Generation 1 transformers ships, maybe even the transformers or at the least unicron and cybertron.

also i'd like my ship in BC lol the uss griffin. Griffin class.

3 words: Sisko - Q - Punch!

 #3 - Posted by: celsius13 (Member) on 05-27-2009 at 19:23
i think we have lost the meaning of star trek.
star trek is about exploration peace in the galaxy and going along, that was the intent of the original series that was the vision of Gene Roddenberry.
DS9 the last movie and lot of the episodes in TNG and Voyager have lost that vision.

 #4 - @#3 - Posted by: adm_tyler (Member) on 05-27-2009 at 19:42
There is a difference between 'lost the vision' and showing non-Federation empires in a more truthful way.

#5 - Posted by: casojin (Member) on 05-27-2009 at 22:41
DS9 characters both majors and minors are quite magnificent. There are many personality conflicts and redeeming features.

For example, Damar who was mere Glinn under Dukat became a great hero of Cardassia. Worf who was once again discommendated turned into a man of the same house as a chancellor of the Klingon Empire. These features has created a uniqueness in each DS9 characters. And that's one of the best things in DS9.

 #6 - Posted by: Firewarrior1705 (Member) on 05-27-2009 at 23:04
DS9 simply rocks. There are so many great characters, both villans and good guys and the barrier between them is very relative. Think of Dukat saving his daughter and then wanting to kill her, or at sisko bombarding that maquis planet with quantum torps or his taking part in the assasination of the romulan ambassador. That was pure gold.

#7 - Posted by: jamesamey (Staff) on 05-28-2009 at 03:53
Although Voyager is by far my favorite series, i would have to say TNG gets my vote, the chemistry between the characters/actors, on and off screen has not been matched in any other show i've seen, Star Trek or otherwise...

#8 - Posted by: billyboyjennings (Member) on 05-28-2009 at 04:20
No one beats Picard. TNG wins.

 #9 - Posted by: into_the_vortex (Member) on 05-28-2009 at 11:41
One problem with characters that Gene Roddenberry created was that they were static. Kirk and Riker were the fighter/carouser type, Picard quietly proud and stoic, Worf loudly proud and stoic, Data curious and talkative, etc., etc. In DS9, the characters were ALL dynamic (except Morn). Villains were heros, heros villains, and all were infinitely more complex and interesting than the shipbound-series characters.

 #10 - Posted by: celsius13 (Member) on 05-28-2009 at 12:42
i agree there more atractive but this is the problem the more dinamic the more captivating and you come up with a simple SF show that makes money,it's not inportant that they fight or that they die it's not inportant that they even die they are simple replaced and the show goes an and the producers keep getiing more money becouse its fun.leets not forget that we loved and still love the original serie and even that the show was canceld is stil been transmited on diferent tv programs and that show with static caracters was still loved 15 yeas after it was canceld and is still loved today more than 43 years since it's first transmition. After another 40 years people will still be watching star trek original series not DS9.

 #11 - DS9 Hands down! - Posted by: Brannigans_Law (Member) on 05-29-2009 at 06:44
It's not even a close contest, and that's considering te rediculously high-quality of the other series' characters and actors.

I recently started my Voyager DVD's and it turns out the first 3 series are a joy to watch! The characters are great!

The Original Series has some fantastic character interaction moments (especially in The Motion Pictures) which makes the Original Star Trek sucha darn good show to see, even now.

The Next Generation characters looked so comfortable working together and the carried their roles so damned well.

As much as I loved Enterprise (better stories, pacing, action and acting than most of the rest of Trek) all but a hanful of the caracters were developed fully (poor Hoshi, and especially Travis) and that let the show down a bit. The minor characters were almost as good on Enterprise as the awesome minor's from DS9.

There we go, that's fact. Brannigan has spoken.
Kif, inform the men.

 #12 - lol - Posted by: MJAY (Member) on 05-30-2009 at 11:49
I love the "Kif" bit, Brannigan. lol

Yeah, most of us over a certain age clearly see that DS9 had the best characters.

Yet, as we all know, the TNG-biased majority always wins the votes. lol

If you look at it objectively (however you may define that), DS9 had the best setting for character development, and character interaction. DS9 had such an interesting interaction web... I'd run out of words describing it.

Even though I prefer the high-mindedness of the TNG crew (high-minded in that I always felt inspired). I loved the DS9 crew, because they felt..... more real. Jadzia was about as down to earth as one could imagine a woman could get. Benjamin was just..... well he was Benjamin. The DS9 cast felt more human to me than any of the other crews.

It's ok, but it looks like a late TMP or early TNG ship more than a TOS one.

#2 - Posted by: vonfrank (Member) on 05-18-2009 at 18:31
dispite the fact that it looks oddly out of place for the early TOS era, i still like it

 #3 - Posted by: MikeA31 (Member) on 05-18-2009 at 18:53
I didn't care for the movie, but have no problem the the "E" herself.

 #4 - Posted by: Darth_Tomas (Member) on 05-19-2009 at 00:13
I saw pictures of it before the movie came out, and
I thought it was dreadful, absolutely horrible, how can you do that to the Enterprise?!

But then i saw the movie, and It instantly grew on me, so much. It is now probably
my favourite star trek ship, besides the kelvin.

#5 - Posted by: casojin (Member) on 05-19-2009 at 00:39
I think the ship looks quite ok but I don't like the multiple warpcores and the size of engineering deck or I could say that I don't like the interior of this new Enterprise.

#6 - Posted by: josephdavis (Member) on 05-19-2009 at 01:24
its exactly that, new

 #7 - Posted by: starfox1701 (Member) on 05-19-2009 at 11:20
Well she is a mid TOS era ship not early. And obviously the design underwent a major revision after the attack on the Kelvin because she was commisioned 13 years late. She preformed well under the circumstances considering the lack of experiance her rooky crew had(90% cadets). There are some thing that I don't like like the enginering internal arrangment and the necelle pylon geometry. Overall howeverwhen comparied to other modern SCIFI outside of trek I think she was a success. It's just no how I would have done it;D

 #8 - @#7 - Posted by: adm_tyler (Member) on 05-19-2009 at 12:22
If it was mid-TOS, why was Kirk not in Starfleet?

#9 - Posted by: josephdavis (Member) on 05-19-2009 at 12:30
because his dad was reason he joined in first place. without him he lost his path. and acted as most young people would growing up with loss of one parent and having a step parent. he rebelled

 #10 - A little goofy... - Posted by: jacobdrj (Member) on 05-20-2009 at 08:06
But still, an improvement on the TOS Connie IMHO. I do like all the moving parts.
Warp scenes were good, and didn't borrow too heavily from Star Wars.

 #11 - Posted by: celsius13 (Member) on 05-20-2009 at 20:23
with the return of nero in time the time line was change and thas was created a paralel universe
after the incident with the kelvin starfleet has accelerated the development of the enterprise and of the technologi been use
so this enterprise is a paralel universe one

#12 - Posted by: TiberiousKirk (Member) on 05-21-2009 at 09:51
Pardons for the double post, but I liked the old transporter sequence better than the new one. And I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that the external warp scenes looked a little like star wars hyperspace jumps.

 #13 - Posted by: celsius13 (Member) on 05-22-2009 at 05:18
sory for the double post but i just whant to say that not only the "warp scenes looked a little like star wars hyperspace jumps" is the problem there are a loot of problems. puting it simpler they dont have any more ideas and there tring to copy other succesful things

 #14 - why i don't like the new enterprise - Posted by: trekfan1983 (Member) on 05-22-2009 at 09:49
simply because it looks so far advanced of the tos enterprise that i don't see how they can explain away how it will go from looking so futuristic to looking like the enterprise from the 60's, plus the fact it looks so much more advanced than the tmp enterprise.
but then they did go and destroy 130years of future federation history in one film not that it was a terrible film.

i thoroughly enjoyed the movie, very well done! however, i did think that the enterprise looked a tad... "cartoon-ey" i would have preferred something that was between the original TOS enterprise and the refit seen in the movies (ditch the satellite-dish deflector in favor of the blue one, etc)... the one in the new movie had too many curves, and the nacelles seemed too close together, giving it more of a "fantasy" look than a "actually might one-day exist" look... just my two cents!

#16 - why mess with one of sci-fi's greatest creations - Posted by: andurilmat (Member) on 05-24-2009 at 11:00
although i thought the new movie was awesome they pretty much shot themselves in the foot with the ship - except the scene where it emerges from warp firing its phasers - mainly because it looked like the constitution refit. but how people are are saying that the reason the enterprise looks the way it did is because the destruction of the kelvin caused starfleet to rethink its aproach hence the new designs and theis enterprise was built later than the original hence the the new look. i even claimed this was the reason when the shots of the ship were released there is however a problem with this defence
the first thing you see in the movie the kelvin didn't anyone notice that the kelvins saucer was a connie refit saucer now last time i checked that was post tos not pre so within the first five seconds of the movie any chance at the whole time travel story still being cannon is straight out the airlock. just an example of abrhams cherry picking what he liked from trek and ignoring what the fans wanted
then there is just the whole interior of the ship - it looked more like a steel mill than a spaceship.
but did anyone notice the little bits just ripped from teh connie refit - abrahms may claim it was to pay homage such as the classic azteck poattern, the duck egg blue stripe down the neck of the ship and the saucer section in general but i just reckon the special effects guys didnt want to create an abomination - sadly they failed.
the ship wwould be perfect for star wars not star trek

Seriously, the multiple mini-core idea is genius. The rest of the look was a bit corny but good directing made up for it on the action scenes. Also, the interior look was significantly more like what you would expect to see in a military vessel, whether of the naval or spacefaring variety. The whole corridor look was originally intended to simulate the inside of a naval vessel, but when it came to engineering, the scale of the TOS vessel necessitaty scaling down. It doesn't seem like Abrhams considered what size these ships were when assessing the engineering section design or shuttle capacity wink wink wink, but again, this was a bit more realistic in it's look.

@Andurilmat

"...ignoring what the fans wanted."

If I wanted to watch ships with 4 windows and completely smooth hulls fight, I'd watch TOS.

The nitpicks in these comments are things I noticed, but frankly don't care about. The movie was good, better than 1, 5, 9, and 10. It was well written, contained some excellent callbacks and nods to the diehard fans like the people here, and took it's own route.

Old Trek is dead, this is New Trek. I like it, it's enjoyable. Best of all, Berman and Bragga don't have their hands on it.

@Konrad9

did i say at any point the movie was crap?? nope quite the opposite i just hated the ship

#20 - Posted by: xpwolf (Member) on 05-26-2009 at 14:03
the Ship is what trek should have been when it was first created. I mean seriously, what is better then having a sexy looking ship to explore the galaxy? The design is obviously a connie and yet, has a vey curvy sexy appeal that the TOS connie could never dream of. Lets look at how they made the old ship, and how they make the new ones... HELLO??? the new ships are all sexy compared to that old hideous beast of a TOS connie from the old days. Ill take smooth, curvy, flashy ships over that old joke of a bucket of bolts anyday. The New trek is the future.

LONG LIVE THE JJPRISE!

Star Trek Fans will like anything that's Star Trek.
Asking them if you like it is like asking them "do you like breathing?"

#22 - Posted by: Saquist (Member) on 05-26-2009 at 21:05
Ultimately the Abramsprise is a horrible design, awkward and ungainly. It can only be adquately described as a proffesional "kitbash". It's a frankenstien with a TMP "head" and a fancy new body

Worse of all it violates what Gene wanted out of a ship.
His instructions to Matt Jefferies was not Rocket Boosters, fins or anything else that would anchor it to the 60's. It would be a starship and Gene would be the first to use the term. This ship turns warp nacelles into Rocket Boosters, the fins on the back of them and even worse Air intakes for got knows what.

Tragicly it doesn't stop there. The ship ,based off visual projection scaling from images from the film confirm that it's in excess of 936 meters long. Which scales up all the other ship from the movie to a similar stature.

Abrams movie was very sucessful.
Yet the plot is the worse yet in the entire franchise full of plot holes and contrivances that manipulate the ending to save the day. Cheating....Because the writers were not intrested in giving the characters a real challenge.

So all though the Abramprise was a pretty bad design it pales in comparison to the movie. Like Scare crow from wizard of OZ is singing if I onlyl had a brain.

#23 - It's not so much that it is bad as it is that it is wrong... - Posted by: Raven_CWG (Member) on 05-27-2009 at 12:36
The problem with the new ship design, like with the movie itself, is not so much that it is bad, but rather that it is wrong. That is to say, just like the movie, which would have been a pretty good movie if it hadn't been pretending to be Star Trek, so too this new "Enterprise" would have been an ok design if it wasn't pretending to be the real Enterprise. And this whole "it’s an alternate universe" argument can not even begin to explain away all the radical technological and chronological changes and inconsistencies between this new movie and the Star Trek that we have known and loved for over 40 years. I could (and would) say more about the flaws of the movie itself, but this is supposed to be a critique of the ship and not the movie as a whole. So as to the ship itself, overall the external design is not terrible, but still leaves a lot to be desired. As others have pointed out, the proportions of this design seem somewhat off and are lacking the esthetic appeal of either the original or TMP versions. The nacelles are to big, the secondary hull is too small, and the pylon supporting the primary hull is set to far back (almost centered) on the secondary hull; this combined with the unnecessary organic curves all serves to give this new Enterprise (as a previous poster put it) a rather "cartoon-ey" look, instead of the "more realistic and modern" look that the designers said they were going for. There is absolutely no reason why they could not have kept the same basic design as the original and simply added all of the fine surface detail that could have made the original design look just as real and as cool as the TMP refit did; but since they did decided to completely change the design of the ship, the least they could have done was to have worked a little harder to get the proportions a little more aesthetically pleasing.

Now, on to the interior of the ship. While the basic exterior design of the ship (while not perfect by any means) is not terrible, the interior set designs are a completely different matter. It’s like, OMG what were they thinking. On one hand, you have the iPod bridge, which is about the most gaudy, non-functional and out of place design I have ever seen (not just compared to the rest of Star Trek as a whole, but also compared to the other Enterprise interior set designs within the movie itself); it just doesn't fit. On the other hand, you have the fact that they were too lazy to build a proper Engineering set, and instead choose to film in what is either a brewery or water treatment plant, which of course on film looks exactly like what it is...an industrial building...not the inside of a space ship. It is almost as though the people who designed the ship itself and those designing the various interior sets for this film were working on completely separate moves and never once spoke to each other or had any idea what the other was designing. There is absolutely no design consistency at all.

For the most part, I thought it was a good sci-fi film (though the camera work left a lot to be desired and the lens flare was just damn annoying), however, as a Star Trek film, I think it was frankly rather bad.
The Kelvin looked like it was build in the 1800's, the Enterprise looked like it was built in the 60's and the outpost looked like it was built in the 80's!
The technology seems even worse then Ent too!

#4 - Posted by: USSGalileo (Member) on 05-11-2009 at 15:58
I liked it, great as a big summer movie, good as a Star Trek movie. But I am a little sad; this really was a Star Trek reboot, like what they did with BSG. After this, I don't think there will be any shows about the time after Nemesis or a min series about another ship and crew during the Dominion War. Both are things that I would have liked to see. Now I all new Star Trek will be in the form of a sequel to this movie.

I think I would have liked it more if this had been the first Star Trek since TOS instead of being the 11th in a series of movies.

#5 - Awesome movie, just one thing missing - Posted by: andurilmat (Member) on 05-11-2009 at 16:22
i thought the movie was awesome, it had action, humor, a goodish story but if you ask me the one thing missing from the movie was star trek, it didn't feel like star trek in fact if i had to describe the movie in one word i'd call it margarine - it may be made to look and taste like butter but at the end of the day it just isn't. thats how i felt about the movie. although i loved the witty little references to TOS and the movies and the portrayal of the characters it just didn't feel right there wasn't enough science talk and not once did i hear a complicated plan spat out by one of the crew that was then translated in to an easily understandable statement. one of the biggest slaps in the face was waiting two hours to hear the star trek theme only to have it cut short- we should have heard that theme the moment we saw the jjprise in space. but although i didn't think it made a good star trek movie i've already been to the cinema to see it twice since thursday.

I loved it and really enjoyed it..saw it twice, definitely something Star Trek deserves

i agree with what has been said and think this is the future we have to live with now. The film was simply that a film. It has been redisgned for the average person who didn't like previous star trek films/show. Now as fans i think we can all be honest in saying we were all going to see it anyhow no matter what we previously thought on the run up to its release. I had been hoping for the orginal music all way through, i assumed it would be in as the trailer had it. It was a good film dont get me wrong and only Mr Nimoy's appearance made it worthy. I dont wanna put the film down as i am pleased it is here, just not quite hit nail on the head and feel loyal fans like us have been forgotten.

#10 - Posted by: billyboyjennings (Member) on 05-11-2009 at 19:05
The movie was good, but It had MAJOR plot holes and details that were just wrong.
I agree with it not being Star Trek. It has some similar characters and places and technology but in the end it just isn't Star Trek. I still think the movie was very entertaining though and look forward to the sequel that's already in pre-production.

 #11 - Posted by: Happy_Russia (Member) on 05-11-2009 at 19:21
The story was crap, the characters--pure gold. Except Uhura. It was a good summer popcorn action flick, but as a Star Trek film? No, not close. It didn't feel like one--everything that came together: Characters, music, plot, etc.... It was like a rip-off of Star Wars. I'll admit, though, this is WAY better than the Star Wars prequels combined. But I can't forgive an idiotic plot or the destruction of Romulus AND Vulcan.

Fun, yet shallow. Decidedly average. Comgratulations, JJ, Orci & Kurtzman....You have made Star Trek like the rest of today's Hollywood crap.

#12 - Posted by: craign (Member) on 05-11-2009 at 19:59
Wow at the above comment. You're the first person I've known to give Star Trek XI a comment so bad. That's not a good thing.

I thought this film was absolutely excellent. It was a fantastic Star Trek Movie, it kept many elements from the Trek we know but added many more which we didn't have previously. Top-notch graphics, the story was compelling, there was a perfect amount of humour (Good humour which makes you laugh, but not too much to make the film feel like nothing but a comedy), fantastic acting and voice acting, the design elements felt really good and generally the whole film came together beautifully. The music, too, was absolutely excellent. Especially the ending theme in the Credits, a superb update to the TOS theme.

If this is the future of Star Trek, I can't complain.

 #13 - Loved IT!!! - Posted by: Garibaldi81 (Member) on 05-11-2009 at 21:01
The movie was Amazing!!! It should give the franchise a much needed dose of adrenaline to give a new generation of fans something to enjoy. Very intense and engaging plot. It creates the opportunity to tell a whole new set of stories that the Star Trek Universe is more than capable of handling without treading on past canon. I have seen a few posts with people saying they won't see it. Those people will miss out on a great experience.

Two thumbs way UP!!Two Thumbs Up!Two Thumbs Up!

any star trek fan who says they wont see this film is fibbing i think. we were all going to see this anyhow i mean lets be honest. I still have hope for the sequal and believe the production team will be aware of these comments on some sort of level and will incorparate them into future films. But JJ if you are reading these please but the music back in. Im sure the fans will even pay for it haha. One thing ive realised, the scanner on the consoles are retail scanners found in many british shops that i use to repair. lol i know not much but thats my tiny connection to the film

#15 - Posted by: casojin (Member) on 05-12-2009 at 01:49
As a SCIFI movie, Star Trek XI is wonderful. However, as a Star Trek, this one fills sorrow into my heart. The destruction of Vulcan suggested that Star Trek I always know is gone in a heartbeat (never exist anymore, only but a memory). There are many details that make me feel that this one is not quite right according to 24th century Star Trek (I'm a TNG, DS9, and VOY fan or we can say 24th century fan).
- Kelvin housing 800 crew.
- Enterprise was built on planet surface.
- KLINGON "WARBIRDS" (which supposed to be D7 Cruisers)
- Multiple Warpcores for Enterprise that ejected from connection between saucer and engineering hull
...and so on....

 #16 - #15 - Posted by: josephdavis (Member) on 05-12-2009 at 06:28
ah i forgot about the cores, and although i havent got best eyesight, they looked just like big barrells more then the cores we've seen in previous films. and not to start spouting cannon around but surely the 29th centuary time agents would repair this mess? if ofcourse this universe is the one we all know and love. perhaps its just a close tangent to the star trek universe we know?

 #17 - Brilliant - Posted by: Kitteh (Member) on 05-12-2009 at 18:43
Star Trek was simply one of the best movies I've ever seen and easily the best Star Trek film. I disagree with others; the whole time I couldn't believe how much it still felt like Star Trek while being incredibly entertaining and exciting. I think this movie had more pure entertainment per minute than any film I've seen before.

#18 - Posted by: JamesTiberiusKirk (Member) on 05-13-2009 at 09:57

I loved the movie and I think that a new timeline will give new life to Star Trek. I hope that this is only the beginning of a lot more movies to be released in the future.

#20 - Posted by: andurilmat (Member) on 05-13-2009 at 16:29
although i said that it's missing the star trek element i still thought the film was awesome and hope this spawns a few more sequals - just as long as we dont get a remake of star trek 5

 #21 - Amazing - Posted by: AresofWar (Member) on 05-13-2009 at 20:24
I thought the movie was amazing. Great as both a Sci Fi and a Star Trek movie.
#15, I also thought about the Warp Core ejection, considering how many things were ejected. But, a friend and I ended up coming up with the idea that they were multiple warp reactors, and they in total made up the core. To me, this makes sense.

All in all, loved the movie, especially where Kirk 'cheats' and when Nero's henchman picks up another ship. That scene made the movie for me.

 #22 - Nero? - Posted by: john41 (Member) on 05-14-2009 at 00:42
I really don’t know I feel about it yet – guess I’ll have to see it again some time. I liked a lot of things – disliked others…

The cast of characters were very well done and worked seamlessly yet I found the villain somewhat lacking. Did anyone feel that the Nero was a bit 2 dimensional? I mean it was almost like he was an afterthought when they were writing the movie: “Oh yeah, we need some sort of conflict, we’ll throw in an angry Romulan.”

Still when I think back to how bad I thought the movie was going to be – it far exceeded my expectations.

Came out of the theater with a "blah" feeling, but after having a couple days to reflect, I absolutely hate this movie. It stunk. frown Good Sci-fi popcorn summer Gen Z movie, but no real story. Junk for anybody over 30 I would bet.. for me anyway. I hope the next has a plot, and doesn't induce seizures with the flare and the shaky cam right out of cloverfield.

 #24 - Posted by: djayk3 (Member) on 05-14-2009 at 20:08
I feel the plot simply moved too fast... there could have been a lot more story development behind everything. Regardless if you read the Star Trek Countdown prequel comics or not.

I don't mean to chew the fat with you, I feel so sad for something that could have accomplished more of your Gene's dream that could have been filed with substance and inspired a whole new generation to the heights upon which Gene stood. Gene had a vantage point that only few people in the whole history of the world get to perch. There are few people in the world that understood and had the gift so see....the other side...through the veil and see the purpose of life and in his way he wanted to teach people what was real and what was most important. I only wish I had had a father to teach me things, but Gene did teach me many true and eternal principals. Only few people ever reach the level of understanding Gene had. He took that covenant and accountability that came with the knowledge very seriously. What a blessing he had.

They completely ignored all for which your father stood. I am a deep fan, but even I can handle it when people take Star Trek a skew, even when they poke fun at it, but this was not Star Trek. As far as "art'-Mr. Abrams took a Thanksgiving dinner, with all it stands for, and handed out a single block of cold, florescent painted tofu with some neat garnish. The effects were good, but as Star Trek-it had names that we recognizable and none of the principals that governed that for what those names stood . It was a shallow and hollow film by most 'art' standards. Star Trek: The Abrams Flop. He took a precious thing and made a mockery of it. He borrowed your father's "Ferrari" and took it for a joy ride showing it off, then returned it, reupholstered in pink flamingo, graffitied the outside with flower power, and ruined the clutch. But it was your mother's favorite color and your father wanted to give it as a gift. I would be applauded if I had such a legacy treated so disrespectfully-something my father worked so hard on and treated merely like a vehicle and a rung in someone's success.

 #26 - time to grow - Posted by: into_the_vortex (Member) on 05-14-2009 at 23:36
There is a reason Star Trek has been a dying franchise. All of us old fart trek fans are so hung up on canon and consistency that we've made a tv show into our own personal realities. What we fail to realize is that Star Trek has only existed through the creativity of the writers, and frankly, they ran out of material.

Why not get a reboot?!? The possibilities are now endless!

Why not make it non-trekkie friendly?!? Why shouldn't a new generation get the opportunity to become obsessed with debating canon like we do?

Why not get entertaining Trek movies back in the theaters? The crap they've been making to sate the trekkie hunger for movies wasn't cutting it. Unlike Nemesis (completely contrary to canon btw), or Insurrenction, this movie was actually fun to watch. I would watch it again, unlike the aforementioned movies which I can't stomach again.

Hooray for the first decent Star Trek movie since First Contact!

 #27 - Sorry, #25... - Posted by: vorlon3 (Member) on 05-15-2009 at 04:02
I completely disagree with you. I'm an old school Trekkie who watched every movie and tv series and I could clearly see why the franchise was dying. Between DS9 and Voyager, they were running out of ideas. I did remember at one time that DS9 had very low ratings which is why they added Worf to the series which did in fact opened a door to new opportunities which did turned the series into a saga. Look what happened during the Dominion War. I didn't hear too much bitching about that. That had nothing to do with Star Trek or at least what gene's original vision of the future. It clearly shows, "Hey, Peace doesn't last forever". Of course, I though they could have done a better job with it but oh...well. Voyager, had a great idea but should have left them in the Alpha Quad. I personally liked ENT due to the fact it was more OLD SCHOOL than the original Trek. It actually showed more "Why space isn't always safe" and not too much techno-babble that was standard ever since TNG. I say, "Let's just keep it simple...alittle this and that, Kay?"

As far as the new trek movie, IT Rock Sure, it did had alot of action....the comedy was very down to earth and the plot was well done. Alot of you were mentioning that this movie wasn't "CANNON". Well, WTH is cannon? Have some of you forgot the fact that alternate timelines were well established between TNG and DS9? Those floodgates were opened long time ago. I personally believe that much of the Star Trek Fanbase is so stuck on "CANNON" they clearly don't have an opened mind of endless possibilities. Much of the Fanbase wanted more stories from the future and not of the past. That's fine just as long it doesn't suck.

The main reason they did the storyline of Kirk and Spock was

1. The Original Trek was outdated thanks to ENT and was a opportunity to make it more futuristic.
2. And Why not?

I think everyone needs to sitback and let's see how this rides out.

Your right with what you say my friend. I critisised the smallest things and not seen bigger picture. Star trek is in nearly every paper magazine channel the lot. We not seen this for ages and friend who wouldnt have dreamed of watching star trek are seeing this film. maybe they'll watch the old stuff maybe not. However star trek is at the top of convo for first time in a while and the only people moaning about it seems to be us fans. I appologise for my comments and cant wait for the extended dvd and future sequals.

 #34 - Your exactly right, #30..... - Posted by: vorlon3 (Member) on 05-16-2009 at 19:25
Why are the Star Trek fans are the only ones that are complaining about this movie? Are "The Fans" really showing support to Star Trek or are they just SAYING that they are. I have never seen such a divided Fanbase. Something's telling me that there are way too many "POSERS" within the Fanbase. Most of you are giving your honest opinions which I can live with, no problem. The one's I can't understand are the one's that are so stuck on "CANNON", which is one of the many reason's why ENT was Cancelled. There were so many of them complaining about how the show shouldn't existed in the first place or introducing the Denoublans(I guess that's the right spelling). The rest was Berman/Braga's fault.

What the "FANS" should have done was voiced their opinion about getting Manny Cotto to be the original story maker for ENT and NOT voicing total dissatisfaction about the whole series. ENT would be still around if that would have happened. GET UNSTUCK PEOPLE!!!!! OPEN YOUR MINDS!!!!!

Oh, and the posers.....talk alot and don't know what they are talking about. Anyway, I'm fully supporting this new Trek film and the direction that they are going with it. REAL TREKKIES are the one's that are willing to explore infinite possibilities and see them through to the very end. Then again, you don't have to be a fan but still willing to explore the possibilities as well. So the real question is.....ARE YOU WILLING TO EXPLORE OR REMAIN STUCK?

BTW, it's perfectly fine to be a fan of a Star trek series, JUST DON'T DISDAIN THE OTHER ONES, Kay?

Well, I just got back from seeing the new trek film. I waited to vote and read these coments so I could have an unbias viewing. all of you guys have good points with alot of your opinions on the new film and there was the thing with the villian. I have been a fan since the 70's and as "hard core" a fan as any of you.,,,but

I have to say I was entertained and felt I spent my hard earned money well and I will be going to see this again. Everyone portrayed their characters well. Felt good to see the old gang again

Please give this film a try. I think you'll be glad you did.

Long live Martok, long live the Klingon Empire.

#2 - Garak FTW! - Posted by: SovietHybrid (Member) on 04-29-2009 at 02:51
Was one of the better and darker characters of the DS9 series and wasn't afraid to do things other characters wouldn't. cool

#3 - Posted by: jamesamey (Staff) on 04-29-2009 at 11:19
Jadzia Dax, i loved the depth of the character, and of course the quirky personality =P

come on... who morns for morn?

#5 - Posted by: Henze (Member) on 04-29-2009 at 12:25
odo the shapeshifter....i loved the way he could shapeshift into any form but didn't got the human face right...

Garak, no question big grin

jk, I liked him...I just liked Ezri more.

Morn :') wink

 #9 - NONE! - Posted by: Cuda_UK (Member) on 04-30-2009 at 05:40
To be honest i didn't like ANY of the characters in DS9. Mind you i prolly don't know most of them as i switched off most times it was on, by far the worst Star Trek spinoff of them all.

#10 - Posted by: BLasToFF (Member) on 04-30-2009 at 08:44
Quark was my favorite. I always love to see how he would cheat the station in the first
few seaons. Was fun to watch. Odo and Garek had to my second favorite.

Lol, 0 votes for Jake Sisko. Him and Wes should start a no one likes us club.

 #11 - Tough call... - Posted by: Brannigans_Law (Member) on 04-30-2009 at 09:41
...Loads'a characters were awesome in DS9. Apart from most of the women, of course. Yes, Jadzia was the hotness, but not the best character. Kira was originaly born "Keith" as I'm sure she was a dude.

All the rest were bloody good though, with the two from the British Isles leading the field: Good ol' Miles and Julian... Followed by Quark, Garak, Odo, Ezri, Dukat, Weyoun, Martok, Worf, etc. etc. etc...

DS9 was the best series partly because it had some of the best characters.

 #12 - Posted by: into_the_vortex (Member) on 04-30-2009 at 11:27
@ #11, totally agree. I think the depth and variety of characters made DS9 unique and the most interesting of all of the series. Gotta disagree about the ladies though. Kira and Ezri topped the hotness charts in my book.

#13 - Garak forever - Posted by: JamesTiberiusKirk (Member) on 05-01-2009 at 03:43
I love the way garak talks. garak is by far the best.

 #14 - lol DS9 Characters - Posted by: MJAY (Member) on 05-01-2009 at 13:21
Kira = The woman you had "your first time with", and taught you everything you know.
Ezri = The girlfriend(s) you had in school.
Jadzia = The great woman you end up marrying when you grew up.

Despite the comparison given, Benjamin Sisko gets my vote. Truly, a character I respect.
Similar to Picard, in that he knows when to be dispassionate in decision making, but unlike Picard, doesn't have social limitations with young people and knows when to 'let his emotions' get involved. He's not logical-to-a-fault.

 #15 - Garak - Posted by: JediGandalf (Member) on 05-02-2009 at 08:51
All the episodes around Garak were my favorites. Quark is a close second. I always liked to see his schemes for making profits and then watch them fail miserably. You kind of feel sorry for the guy. He just wants to make a profit! Capitalist spirit!

MJAY: Picard was emotional but he wasn't compassionate. Later on we see Picard become more compassionate and "easier" around youth.

 #16 - Captain Sisko - Posted by: adm_tyler (Member) on 05-02-2009 at 17:46
The guy who decked Q! Picard, Janeway and everyone else probably wanted to, but Sisko actually did it.

#17 - Oh yeah, Picard's character evolved. - Posted by: MJAY (Member) on 05-03-2009 at 01:30
Especially, in Generations when he faced himself in the Nexus. Despite the hard face he put on, Picard always wanted a family. So when he saw those children, he almost immediately warmed up to them.

Yeah my comparison was between early-TNG Picard, and early-DS9 Sisko.

#18 - Where is Eris? =( - Posted by: Jhamel (Member) on 05-03-2009 at 12:23
Well, I voted for "other" since Eris was not listed. =(

Data...without a doubt. I remember being him for holloween once...took me growing up to get me out of that uniform, lol Roll Eyes (sarcastic)

 #3 - Tasha Yar - Posted by: Commander_One (Member) on 04-21-2009 at 20:56
I know she was only on for one season, however, to be only one season, she sure made an impact on shows throughout the entire season. A huge part of Data's character in the long run as well.

 #4 - correction - Posted by: Commander_One (Member) on 04-21-2009 at 20:58
I meant to say, she made an impact throughout the entire show, not just the season.

Lieutenant Daniels; Tactical Officer/Security Chief of the USS Enterprise-E

#12 - Posted by: Barihawk (Member) on 04-23-2009 at 06:14
Like I always do, I went for Doctor Pulaski. She was funny and a serious dose of classic Trek injected into Season Two. And a damn sight better than Crusher stick out tongue.

 #13 - Posted by: The_Undertone (Member) on 04-23-2009 at 08:34
Wierdest thing is that's the toughest poll to decide on in ages! (Bar a certain irritating acting-ensign) Loved all the next gen characters, not a single Cappin' Archer among em smile

Especially after reading the review(free of major spoilers btw) on trekmovie.com Star Trek is back!

 #3 - Posted by: Happy_Russia (Member) on 04-14-2009 at 18:41
I'm not as excited as I should be. I think the rush of positive reviews mostly comes from the excitement from the secret Austin, Texas screening of Star Trek XI. And, of course, leave it up to TrekMovie.com to give a gushing review. You can't say your two-cents worth if you don't support the new film; they'll flame you down without a thought. Anyway, back on track, I'm not looking forward to this as much as I should be. I know I should be ecstatic...but it just seems too...non-Trek, if you understand my meaning. From what we know about the story, it seems just...un-original. It just reeks of Star Trek IV and First Contact, except we're dealing with alternate universe versions of our beloved crew. I mean, why do we give two craps about these characters if they aren't the same people we grew up with? Honestly?

I'm not. I want to know how the UFP goes on after the Dominion War, not pre-TOS. I just don't know how a prequel movie is a any better idea than a prequel TV series.

 #5 - Yeah. - Posted by: MJAY (Member) on 04-14-2009 at 21:05
@#3: Yeah, you show wisdom... because I would be among the people that would 'flame you down' for your 2-cents not being in support of the film, and you already know why, you stated it. It's the only Trek we're being given atm, so I really don't want to knock it. If this were back in the day, then I won't complain. We had TNG/DS9/ and VOY in the past. We had the luxury of knocking one series and supporting another. Star Trek movies were regular, and were produced 'right on time'. Again, plenty to choose from, the option to kiss or diss was available. But I don't want us to "diss" so hard that we lose the franchise. I don't think someone's right to vent an opposing viewpoint is worth it at that point. See what I'm saying?

@#4: I'm with you 100% with that opinion. Simply because, you're not putting the movie down. I was worried that Enterprise was going to fail, BECAUSE it was a prequel... and it did. It started garnering an audience, but it didnt do it fast enough and was canceled. So I'm worried about the prequel theme of the upcoming movie... but I'll still support it, albeit a different reality that none of us truly care about.
But on the flipside, the "alternate universe" theme, helps put our canon-concerns to rest. So it makes the movie more "palatable", and increases my anticipation.

well, i do not like the ships detail upgrade, but hey, it's startrek, i want to see the movie...

but as someone stated: we want to know what the federation did After the dominion war....and that is excactly what hiddenfrontier.com is doing with their fanfiction series(yes, they have multiple series which sometimes crosses their paths)....those are great guys just take a look there!!

#7 - PLEASE, for the love of God, DON'T pre-judge the film... - Posted by: Brannigans_Law (Member) on 04-15-2009 at 00:54
I think the film shows a great deal of promise. It is a little off established Trek, but let's face it, established Trek is old now. It needs a shiny new makeover, or it's doomed to fall into obscurity. As MJAY brilliantly points out, we don't have the luxury to be negative, at worst we can be cautiously apprehensive. It was this negativity in resisting a change that lead to Enterprise (arguably one of the best plotted, acted and directed Trek shows) being cancelled. The producers are nervous about offering new things because the old set-in-their-ways Trekkies / Trekkers will hate it on principle. If we let them have a chance, then we could look forwards to decades more Trek, and more varied! Not just what the Federation did post-war, but what the Romulans did, or what Section 31 were up to during the past, through the war, etc. There's so much material to draw insparation from!

PLEASE, don't judge this film based on petty arguments, like was done with Enterprise...

I do not expect too much from the film. I miss the old trek feeling which seems to be gone now (but I need to admit I don't know yet for sure). The trailer looks to me as it could be any other random sci-fi movie.
I won't support star trek or this film in particular just because it's the only trek we're being given at the moment. This would only result in more trek which I won't like as well - they won't return to the old style if they're successful with the new one but if they're not successful I guess the franchise will die which I think is better in the end than trek becoming something completely different as it was before... frown
However if I like the movie I surely will support star trek or this film in particular in future because I liked what I've seen and not because it's the only trek we're being given at the moment...
I'll decide that when I'll have watched the movie (and with that I'll already support it).
If I'll get flamed because of my opinion (e.g. by MJAY) - well I guess I can live with that....

Im excited by this movie, to be honest. And we can't rreally judge the movie untill we've acturally seen it. You have to renember, the Trailers are aimed at getting the people who would normally not go to see Star Trek just because its Star Trek, to go and see the movie. What the movies like beneath the trailers is anyones guess (Well, anyone besides thef few hundred or so that have alrwady seen it)

And as for the last prequel that you all keep bringing up, Enterprise, it wasn't a very strong series in general, its hard to place a finger on why, but I personally fealt it was cancelled just as it was getting better. It had so much potential at the point the series ended.

And finally, for those that want to know about the Federation post Dominion War, theres plenty of VERY good book series out there (Titan and Destiny to name 2), as long as you acturally feel like reading. Also, Star Trek Online is set Post NEmesis when it comes out (Which is somthing else i cant wait for)

Anyway, that got really side tracked now didnt it? Bottom line for the movie: You might as well watch it, have you REALLY got anything better to do in 2 spare hours?

I can't emphasize enough that the hardcore Trek-community is a family.
So to my fellow Trekkers/Trekkies...
This one's for you... all we need is some....closure....

What do you say? Another 40 years for Trek. Lets get behind it.

at least it has Star Trek visible more to the rest of the public

I am cautiously optimistic about the upcoming film although I already have reservations about it . . . especially the look of the "new" Enterprise, both exterior and interior. Phasers too... way too silver.

The plot is also a bit weird but I have been avoiding spoilers so I hope to be pleasantly surprised. I am wary every time I hear that a writer, producer or director has not seen or known enough about Star Trek before making an addition to the franchise. That is a key reason why Star Trek Nemesis sucked . . . the director, Stuart Baird, never watched an episode of TNG before or during the making of the film. JJ Abrams is also ignorant about Trek. However I won't let that alter my final judgment and I look forward to seeing Trek again on the big screen.

On the whole writers/Director and the whole knowing Star Trek thing, atleast 1 of the writers is a trekkie, so it cant turn out as bad as it COULD of stick out tongue
