Nova Waverider (1.0) - File Description  


Description:
The Waverider is an atmospheric shuttle craft in service aboard Federation Nova-class starships. Unlike other auxillary craft, the Waverider is not stowed in a shuttlebay.
Instead, is docked to the ventral side of the primary hull, just forward of the ship's primary navigational deflector.
Although it has never been seen in action, the Waverider can be readily identified in the MSD of a Nova-class vessel.
The craft's aerodynamic shape suggests that this craft is designed solely for operating within a planet's atmosphere, and as a result probably lacks both impulse and warp engines.
It is conceivable that a vessel would require such a craft when it is necessary to land on the surface of a planet whose atmospheric conditions make it far too hazardous to use transporters or traditional shuttlecraft.

Posts: 58 		because if you didnt give it warp capability or impulse then it would be pretty defunk ingame..... surely its better to tweak the concept a bit to allow for usability

I know I'm not a modeler so I can't whine about it being bad because "let's see you make a better one!"
But really? Put some effort in to it, this is just lazy, ESPECIALLY when you even say "it probably doesn't have warp drive"

Posts: 10 		great try but i have to agree with a couple of these ppl..... y the nacelles if no warp, y a kitbash between a "type 11" and a "something else" and just because it dosen't have nacelles, dosent mean that it wont fit in-game........ anybody else thinking back to the scoutship from insurrection? the one that data used? no nacelles of any kind and it's still popular.... ot the delta flyer (for a bit of a stretch), no conventional nacelles.....

Posts: 21 		It looks perfectly fine and if you think about it, it makes sense to take an existing large relatively aerodynamic spaceframe and mount it on a Scramjet (hence the name Waverider..which sounds better than Shockwaverider) lower section for atmospheric intensive research work for a science starship.

Posts: 50 		I would argue about the lack of impulse engines, shuttle craft and fighters both use impulse as standard impulse engines work both in space and in atmosphere, and for the most part impulse is neccessary for any real atmospheric speeds.

And on top of that, fighters have been known to carry it:

Valkries
Delta-Flyer (paris made a big deal of its aerodynamics)
Aero-Shuttle

The AERO SHUTTLE, the wave-rider's cousin was a concept design for the wave-rider and was integrated into the intrepid class as a way of field-testing the idea, but it was built from basic parts, the wave-rider recieved the Fed's best tech.

So then if the Aero-shuttle carried an impulse and WARP drive as well as the captain's yachts it would make sense for the wave-rider to as well.
