Ghemor-type Galor class (1.0) - File Description

NOTE: This file has become outdated and there's a newer / better version available.
You can still get this file but we suggest you have a look at the NEW / UPDATED VERSION first!

This is a slight visual and hardpoint modification of the Cardassian Galor-class I had on hand which is credited to Michael Frederick (A.K.A. - Zorg/Morpheus). Original credits for the model stand, and are listed at the end of the readme. While not canon to the series, it has certainly made my Cardassian encounters a bit more enjoyable, and I will probably release a Keldon that has been similarly modified at a later date.

Featuring a swap of the impulse and warp engines, this variant is faster and more maneuverable at sublight, and has a stronger hull due to lowered strain on the structural integrity field. Offensively, it packs more beams and a second, forward-mounted torpedo tube. Full details in the readme.

As an open note, the hardpoint values for weapons and shields are balanced to my personal install. You may need to tweak them to better suit your install.

Ghemor-type Galor class (1.0) - Readme
Readme File:
It has always puzzled me why the Cardassians have relied on the Galor-class vessel for so long. While the space-frame is solidly dependable, good for extended service and versatility in fleet operations, the Galor is nothing that anyone would want to be caught having to fight in more than briefly. It repairs very slowly, has about as much firepower as a monkey flinging it's poo, and steers like a brick with a rocket booster crazy-glued to the arse-end.

The most obvious reason for this is due to the design's configuration not making much sense, at least, to me. Federation, Klingon, Romulan, even Dominion vessels have designs that simply make sense for their fleet roles. This is not said to disparage Cardassian ship designers as the design itself is quite solid. However, given the Galor's relative weakness to other ships, the configuration of various internals is nothing short of a disaster, and explains a great deal of Cardassia's issues on the battlefield.

Noticeable improvements from the standard Galor are visually slight, but profound. The two warp engines have been removed in favor of a single, larger warp engine in the former impulse drive housing and parts of the engineering section. Appropriately, impulse engines now reside in the old warp engine housings. Since all three engines are smaller than the models they replaced, there has been a net increase of available internal volume. Moving the impulse engines and changing how they distribute forces across the hull has allowed for a more stable and easier to maintain structural integrity field while boosting the ship's sub-light maneuverability. Various other subsystems have been simplified and onboard space has been better optimized, lowering repair difficulties. A small shuttlebay and a tractor beam system have been added. The forward beam has been replaced by quartet of new compressor arrays, and the massive gaps in it's compressor arcs have been narrowed considerably. Finally, the sensor system has been improved somewhat, though is a bit more exposed than it used to be.

Installation of this ship is a standard drag and drop affair, and will not overwrite your stock Galor. I named the ship the Ghemor subtype specifically for this reason.

The ship's hardpoint is balanced to my personal install. Weapon and shield values may require adjustment in the hardpoint tweaker or MPE to properly suit your own. Wine users as usual should keep an eye on mixed case errors. There are no known bugs.

Foundation, Ftech and KM 1.0 recommended.

Ok now with further testing I just noticed the forward torpedoes are located at the aft section of the ship.

I must admit for my first real release it's not my best work. I had a lot of wonky issues while I was finishing it up, and I thought I got 'em all. I guess not. Roll Eyes (sarcastic) Pile up the issues and fire 'em off in an e-mail for me, and I'll redouble my efforts to correct them.

I'd like to correct the issue on the ship I made if I can. I would highly appreciate a console tracker log should anyone affected be willing to assist.

as one of the few guys who actually collects cardies (and has done some tweaking to them), I might take that challenge up for you. i've done so many repairs to both my install and to other people's creations due to people only having half an idea of what they were doing, I might as well open a starship repair shop stick out tongue

Whatever is wrong with it is in the modified textures. I should have up a better working version within a week.
