For some reason, when I install SOME ships using the .py files part, the game startup becomes corrupt (all I get is a black screen with the golden arrow mouse icon) when I try to load the game. If I remove the ship I just added it works fine. This problem happens with around 50% of the ships I add, there are no files missing or named wrong as I used the checker feature. If I do an install of a .py file myself into the custom folder it works normally.

Any ideas what why it is messing up my BC startup?

Some PY files that come in those Zips are Plugins made for use with Older versions of Foundation

These PY Files are not Compatible with the newest foundation system

The best way around this is to use BCMP and make a New Ship Plugin for the Ship, even if one already exists because BCMP will overwrite it with an updated one.

BCMI and BCMP are rarely used for mods these days, most mods either come in an exe file or are drag and drop install systems

thanks for your help sir, but you mention mod these days, im planing to install the game and get there many ships i remember i had for my last game, nemesis sovereign, exclesior, ncc 1701 a, etc and all those have been releseed in between 2002 and 2003, where bcmp and bcmi were used, or those files anyway come with exes and or are drag and drop? thanks.

the ones you previously had will probably require BCMI (an auto installer) and BCMP (creates the autoload file). however there are new versions of all those ships released since 2003 i think, you may be better to go for the updated versions

tfirst of all thanks sir for this help, much apreciated to receive this treatment in a community i used to use everyday back then. lol the thing is i usually go for the "most downlaoded" ships and most date from 2002, 2003, anyway i didnt understand the difference between bcmi and bcmp what do you meant by auto installer and auto packager, i just remember i used one that you one had to search for the file in the program and then launch the game and make sure it was installed correctly.

ya, it's commonly known that the File Checker *will* disable ships and mods, and it is completely out of date by today's standards and thus is completely inaccurate...
so don't use the File Checker...

I downloaded the program and it works great. Two Thumbs Up! only thing I would recomend is that a program be made where you can select and add different parts of ships together and weapons to make you own custom ships for bridge commander. That would make BCMP even better than it already is. It's good for beginners like me. I may even release my first mod soon. Just don't let the Resistance is Futile! assimilate your ships.

Ok. I found my old CDs and figured I would take the challenge to get this to run in linux.

The game works great but I want to install some new ships and other things. I tried to hard copy the files to the folders but they do not show up in game. I downloaded this to see if it would run under Mono (its kinda like .Net for linux and runs alot of .Net dependent programs) so I figured I would try and see.

I use Wine with some .Net .dll files installed for framework 2.0.5 and a few older versions.

Anyways... I guess what I'm getting at is I'm not going to waste the time to re-write the code for Mono to get this to work.

Is there any other way to get Ships installed into BC without the use of BCMP or BCMI?

Any help would be very helpful.

All so every time I start BCMP it keeps asking me ot install foundation why does it need to do that all the time, should it not intall for good?
